Did Cop Go Too Far At Texas Pool Party?

UPDATE:  Cpl. Eric Casebolt, the cop who pulled his gun on a group of teens while forcing an innocent 15-year-old girl to the ground has now resigned from the McKinney, TX police department.

Did a Texas police officer go too far when he pulled a gun on a group of African-American teens at a pool party, while forcing a 15-year-old swimsuit clad girl to the ground with his knee? That is the question an already skittish nation is asking, in what is being called yet another racially charged case of police brutality.

Cpl. Eric Casebolt, a white police officer in McKinney, Texas, has been suspended after a shocking video showed him manhandling, arresting and drawing his gun on a group of black children outside a pool party.  An amateur YouTube video of the racially charged scene in a suburban community near Dallas, captured Casebolt throwing 15-year-old Dajerria Becton onto a sidewalk while using his body weight to push her head into the concrete.

“Call my mama, oh God!” a crying Becton was heard screaming as Casebolt forced her to the ground. “On your face!” he ordered while slamming her face-first into the grass.

Black protesters pool partySeveral teens raced toward Casebolt to assist the unidentified female, prompting him to curse and randomly handcuff anyone in sight. He then pulled his gun on the children before several officers intervened.

The melee ignited last Saturday when 15-year-old Tatyana Rhodes held an end-of-school-year pool party for several of her friends. The Craig Ranch North community pool in a suburb of Dallas is private and requires a pool pass, however Rhodes lives in the neighborhood and did have the necessary pool pass, as did most of the kids in attendance.

According to Rhodes, several white residents took issue with so many black teens in “their” pool and even voiced dissatisfaction.  “Go back to your Section 8 home,” a white resident shouted at the black teens. Police then received an anonymous “disturbance” call to address a group of teenagers who “do not live in the area or have permission to be there.”

That is when Casebolt and several other officers arrived on the scene and overreacted.

“I think a bunch of white parents were angry that a bunch of black kids who don’t live in the neighborhood were in the pool,” Brandon Brooks, a white teen in attendance said. “Everyone who was getting put on the ground was black, Mexican, Arabic,” he added. The cop “didn’t even look at me. It was kind of like I was invisible.”

White supporters pool partyMcKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller released a statement saying he is “disturbed and concerned by the incident” captured in the video.

“Our expectation as a City Council is that our police department and other departments will act professionally and with appropriate restraint relative to the situation they are faced with.”

Scores of black residents protested outside the McKinney Police Department on Monday, looking for answers.  The Next Generation Action Network is calling for Casebolt to “be fired and charged with assaulting the youth,” Dominique Alexander, the group’s president, told Reuters. The social justice group is also organizing a rally in McKinney for next Monday.

Several white residents have since applauded the actions of Casebolt, with one even saying the officer “deserves a medal” for handling the situation in the manner he did.

[….] The fact this sorrowful incident took place in the state of Texas notwithstanding, the sad truth is, in 2015, this kind of incident could still happen in way too many predominantly segregated communities across America. What we have here is, yet again, a clear case of RACISM rearing its ugly and DISEASED head in the form of (mostly) White residents NOT wanting their (mostly) White community over-run by teenage "n*ggers." And yet again we have a White cop so enraged by just the sight of Blacks…in this… Read more »

Amen Truth. You said everything I was thinking. I watched that video this morning and got so mad I couldn't respond. And they wonder why we marching and protesting and don't trust the police. smdh

Random White Guy

I guess you forgot to mention about a fight at the pool with these kids DJ. That's why the police were called dude. They were causing trouble and the police did their jobs. End of story.

No RWG. I didn't forget a thing.

By ALL accounts every Black kid there was UNarmed. They had NO weapons.

I have no idea where you grew up and how kids fighting in your community were/are dealt with(?)

However, IF police pointing a LOADED gun at unruly BUT UNARMED kids in Your community is Okay with You and the other residents/parents in Your community!?! ….So.Be.It.

Suffice it to say, I didn't grow up in that kind of community and I would NEVER want to live in that kind of community. I shudder to think how many DEAD bodies of unruly BUT UNARMED children there could be lying in the streets, at the hands of ANY cop in ANY community that considers pointing a LOADED gun at those kids to be an appropriate action!?!

UNarmed kids fighting—SHOOT THEM.

Wow. That kind of community has my Sympathy….smh.

End of story.

Update Tues. evening:

McKinney Chief Of Police Greg Conley:
"As the chief of police, I want to say to our community that the actions of Casebolt, as seen on the video, of the disturbance at the pool, are indefensible. Our policies, our training, our practice do not support his actions," he said. "He came into the call out of control, and as the video shows, was out of control during the incident."

Chief Conley also reported that Casebolt has now resigned with a pension and benefits.

And charges against 18 y/o Adrian Martin, "the only person arrested at the pool party incident, has been dropped."

Jane Bishkin, Casebolt's attorney, during the press conference yesterday (Wed): "He (Casebolt) does recognize that his emotions got the best of him, and that the prior suicide calls put him in an emotional place, that he would prefer not to have been there." Bishkin said Casebolt was sorry to anyone who was offended by his actions, but said the viral video from the pool party doesn't show everything. "The video everybody has seen only depicts a small part of Eric's actions that day," Bishkin said. Bishkin said Casebolt's actions were attempts "to gather information," and noted that in addition to putting handcuffs on the girl in the bathing suit, who is black, Casebolt also arrested a white female at the pool party. Bishkin is full of BS. Stevie Wonder can see that cop was out of control. Also the black girl he knocked to the ground was walking away like he told her to and he grabbed her braids and started harassing her. It's too late to save face on this so they need to give it up.

Update: White lady who is alleged to have started all the mayhem at the pool has now been identified and suspended from her job.

As per Dallas News, her name is Tracey Carver-Allbritton, and she works for CoreLogic, "a Bank of America vendor that provides financial profiles to the banking giant that are key in making mortgage lending decisions."

CoreLogic Statement:
"CoreLogic does not condone violence, discrimination or harassment and takes conduct that is inconsistent with our values and expectations very seriously. As a result of these pending allegations, we have placed the employee in question on administrative leave while further investigations take place.”
