DIOR DESIGNER FIRED FOR RACISM
Designer John Galliano has been showing his “true colors” outside the design studio lately, and the outcome has not been pretty.
Christian Dior fired Galliano on Tuesday after an online video showed him praising Adolf Hitler while using racial slurs toward patrons at a Paris bar.
Dior Chief Executive Sidney Toledano confirmed that Galliano was relieved of his duties for the “odious nature” of his comments and behavior. The video went viral on YouTube and showed Galliano hurling anti-Semitic insults at people he thought were Jewish, while declaring “I love Hitler.” Ironically, this was not Galliano’s first racist run-in. Earlier last week he was arrested over an alleged anti-Semitic assault against a Jewish and Asian couple.
Actress Natalie Portman, who just won the Academy Award for Best Actress and is the face of Dior perfume, weighed in on the situation: “I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way.”
