Disinfectant Remark Was ‘A Joke’ Says Trump

- Now that he's a laughing stock, Donald Trump can't lie his way out of this one

Spread The Love

After suggesting that disinfectant injections of common household products might be an effective treatment or cure for COVID-19, Donald Trump has now failed miserably to walk back his remarks as a “sarcastic” joke.

Health
During last Thursday’s daily Coronavirus Response Team press briefing, Trump shared a few of his own personal suggestions on how to fight the deadly COVID-19 virus, including the use of ultraviolet light.  However, things turned south quickly when ‘The Donald’ freestyled a suggestion about injecting a disinfectant into the lungs as a sure-fire killer.

“I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning?” Trump asked to his medical advisors.  “As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”

Disinfectant

Almost immediately, the world began laughing at Donald Trump, and in less than 24 hours, he had become a laughing stock via a series of MEME’s and social media puns.

So, how did the thin-skinned Trump respond?  He called it all a joke.  A moment of him merely being “sarcastic.”

“I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen,” Trump told reporters on Friday.  “I was asking a sarcastic — and a very sarcastic question — to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside.  But it does kill it, and it would kill it on the hands and that would make things much better. That was done in the form of a sarcastic question to the reporters.”

Hmmm…

“Injecting, ingesting, snorting household cleaners is dangerous. It is not advised and can be deadly.” – Dr. Ngozi Ezike, Illinois Public Health Director

OK!  Let’s give ‘The Donald’ the benefit of the doubt for a moment.  Let’s assume that he WAS, in fact, joking and being sarcastic.  Why would any President of the United States provide misinformation as a joke during an official press briefing regarding an active deadly virus that has already killed more than 50,000 Americans??

According to new White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, it was all the media’s fault.

“President Trump has repeatedly said that Americans should consult with medical doctors regarding coronavirus treatment, a point that he emphasized again during yesterday’s briefing,” McEnany said in a statement. “Leave it to the media to irresponsibly take President Trump out of context and run with negative headlines.”

OK!  Now, let’s get back to reality — and the reality is, Donald Trump was NOT joking.  He was NOT directing his remarks to a reporter in a sarcastic manner.  In fact, he WAS speaking to Dr. Deborah Birx from the White House COVID-19 response team.

Need proof?  Here ya go:

HERE’S TRUMP PROMOTING DISINFECTANT INJECTIONS:

NOW HERE’S TRUMP CLAIMING HE WAS ONLY ‘JOKING’:

So, exactly where did Trump get the idea for disinfectant injections? You’ll be surprised to learn that it originated with alleged church “archbishop”/drug peddler Mark Grenon, who claims that chlorine dioxide bleach is a “miracle cure” with a 99% rate of (fraudulently) healing such illnesses as cancer, malaria, autism, and HIV/AIDS.  Sadly, Fox News says poison control centers across the country have reported an immediate uptick in poison emergencies following Trump’s bright idea.
.

On Friday, Trump presented the shortest COVID-19 press briefing ever, then refused to take questions from reporters who were locked and loaded to inquire about his ‘disinfectant’ remarks.  Also on Friday, Trump’s “handlers” realized that having him in front of a mic and reporters 6-7 days a week was a reelection disaster that was doing so much harm, it was probably time to pull the plug. By Saturday, Trump didn’t hold a press briefing at all and even threatened to end them completely because the “fake news” was treating him unfairly.  Oh, boo hoo!

Was Donald Trump only joking and being sarcastic about using disinfectant against COVID-19?  Or was Trump just being Trump by never being able to admit he was wrong and lying about what he said??

Sorry, Donny.  You won’t be able to wiggle your way out of this one!

I have a few thoughts on this latest display of absolute ignorance, stupidity and depravity ………..

First: I am somewhat reminded of a thought expressed by Ross Douthat (conservative political analyst, NYTimes writer and former editor of The Atlantic). In Oct. 2016, prior to the elections, Douthat questioned if a Trump presidency would signal a kind of “divine judgment” on our land?

The truth is, in 2016 60 Million+ (of mostly) White Americans, including approx 53% of White women, voted that creature into office (via the EC)…and they did so with their eyes WIDE open knowing PRECISELY what to expect. Please REMEMBER that fact.

God didn’t do this to Us, America. WE did this to Ourselves. And now Lord only knows how WE will ever live it down!?!

Salon: As I stressed last week, the media’s preferred storyline that suggests Trump is simply incompetent doesn’t add up because Trump has made the wrong decision every single time in terms of how crises like this are supposed to be dealt with. (i.e. Be consistent, transparent, factual, and credible.) It’s increasingly not believable for the press to suggest Trump has been distracted or inept during this crisis, in part because of the level of White House uselessness has become so staggering. Maybe Trump’s vengeful. Maybe he wants to wreck the economy to create investment opportunities? He’s under the thumb of a foreign entity? He wants to cause panic and cancel the November elections? He’s a fatalist? Who knows. And honestly, the specific “why” isn’t what matters now. What matters is asking the difficult questions and pondering what the Trump presidency is truly about, no matter what lurks in the shadows….… Read more »

Second: Hannah Arendt wrote in her 1951 book The Origins of Totalitarianism: Excerpts: [The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e., the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e., the standards of thought) no longer exist…] [The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them..] Based on what we’re witnessing here in America, it appears to me that 30-35% of (mostly) white Americans are highly susceptible to this kind of manipulation and exploitation. And frankly, I’d say they have… Read more »

“Was Donald Trump only joking and being sarcastic about using disinfectant against COVID-19? Or was Trump just being Trump by never being able to admit he was wrong and lying about what he said??’ – DJ

For a brief minute I was gonna say either Trump doesn’t know what the word “sarcastic” means OR he doesn’t believe his voters know what it means. When the truth is, he surely has NO clue what the word means. AND it’s likely that most of his voters don’t know what it means either.

Then add to that: “Trump just being Trump by never being able to admit he was wrong and lying about what he said.”

Mr.BD

Anybody who looks at both of the videos can see he lied. Trying to blame the media for not letting him get away with the lie is the real issue. I hope he does not stop holding those press meetings. Keep talking and hanging yourself. He looks like a total ignorant as* and even other countries are laughing at him.

Mr.BD

I worry about Dr. Fauci and Birx. They are not politicians they are only trying to save peoples lives. But they always have to try to lie and clean up for this imbecile every time he opens his big mouth. Dr. Birx face said it all in that video.

Truthiz1

BD, I agree with you when it comes to Dr. Fauci. I do worry about him. But he seems determine to provide the American people with the truth and facts.

Dr. Birx? Not so much. Frankly, I think she’s gone out of her way to placate her ignorant-azz president and give him cover. I also think her credibility/reputation is beginning to take a real hit.

Mr.BD

I think she is just playing the game otherwise he gets rid of anybody who makes him look stupid or does not agree. Did you see her face when he was talking about injecting disinfectants? Dr. Fauci we already know he is not having Trumps BS. But Dr. Birx is still a doctor and cares about people I think. Once he fell out with Fauci she is the last person who can get through to him.

Truthiz1

Well you may be right about Dr. Birx. We shall see.

It’s certainly clear to me that Trump wants to get rid of Dr. Fauci because Fauci refuses to play games with American lives.

National Review Reader:
The GOP has to start examining the idea seriously that a large portion of its base wants to commit political suicide. There’s no other explanation for why anyone would tolerate a person this mentally unfit to be President in a time of national crisis when thousands a day are dying and 50,000 are already dead.

At the rate the GOP is going, it’s going to cease to exist as a political party in any meaningful way. […]

Umm…I’m “pret” sure that that time has already come.
