DIVISIONS OF CHRISTIANITY
Is modern day/organized Christianity causing more to divide than to unite?
According to Anne Rice it is. The bestselling author of “Interview with the Vampire” and other works, announced via Facebook last week that she has officially renounced (organized) Christianity. Said Rice: “In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life.” It’s a bold move for the author who is actually well-known for her religious convictions.
However, Rice is not alone. Many other strongly religious Christians are distancing themselves from the organizational structure of their faith. Although there are a myriad of reasons why, most are generally due to the mountain of rules within organized religion. DON’T do this. DON’T do that. DON’T think like this. DON’T support that — are often listed as the reasons why many Christians who are strongly steeped in their faith, are leaving it in droves.
And that was enough for Anne Rice, who said via Facebook that she sometimes feels like “an outsider” in the Christian community:
Rice affirmed that though she has decided to leave the institution of Christianity, she “remain[s] committed to Christ as always.”
DJ:"Is modern day/organized Christianity causing more to divide than to unite?"I'd say modern-day/oragnized POLITICALLY driven "social-conservative Christianity" is causing NOTHING BUT "divide" in this country. I'm a "Christian" and have absolutely NOTHING in common with Christian extremists (evangelicals, dominionists, pro-fetus/pro-war types, religious bigots, zealots, etc). Those people scare the H*LL out of me and i want nothing to do with them!
