DNC 2016: The Very Best Highlights
DNC 2016 has come and gone, with the historical major party nomination of the first female to become president of the United States — 96 years after women first got the right to vote. So, what are the greatest moments of the week?
Politics
The week started with the resignation of DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz after an email hack revealed she had been biased against the candidacy of Bernie Sanders. Sanders supporters were livid and used the DNC event to protest and make a ton of noise against unity. However, Bernie Sanders himself helped to squash the divisiveness with a full-throated endorsement of Hillary Clinton and a pledge to assure that Donald Trump will never become president.
For anyone who was looking for star-power, the Democrats definitely delivered. DNC 2016 had videos produced and directed by James Cameron, Shonda Rimes and more, as well as appearances from Paul Simon, Meryl Streep, Alicia Keys, Kareem Abdul-Jabar, Demi Lovato, Eva Longoria, Angela Bassett, Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg and dozens more to support Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. Republicans had 80’s has-been Scott Baio and one of the reality TV actors from Duck Dynasty. Hmmm. So much for Donald Trump promising a sea of celebrities at his convention.
Speeches are the centerpiece of every political convention. Once again, the Democrats definitely delivered with memorable moments from President Barack Obama, Vice-President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Bernie Sanders, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as well as what will likely go down as one of the greatest speeches ever from First Lady Michelle Obama. Also notable at DNC 2016 was the presence of dozens of well-known senators, congressmen, and governors. Notable at the Republican convention was the very obvious absence of senators, congressmen, and governors — well-known or not. In fact, DNC 2016 presented various Republicans who are switching sides just to vote for Hillary.
However, the true star of the week was Hillary Clinton and her historic acceptance of the Democratic nomination for president. Just as important as the Democrats’ nomination of the first African-American to become president, their nomination of the first female to become president will forever be an unforgettable moment.
DJ I can't thank you enough for covering both conventions. Though, how you ever managed to sit through all that madness of the Repub's convention is beyond me!?! But again I thank you. My prayer is that – the more informed We are as a nation, the more Americans will truly understand just what's at stake in this next election. For all Americans who truly love this country and care about Our future the choices couldn't be more clear. "A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons" – Hillary Clinton The Dems did themselves Proud at their convention.
