DNC 2024 Day 3: Introducing Tim Walz
It was another big night at DNC 2024 Day 3 and a continuation of the week’s Harris-Walz joy-fest. Let’s take a look at the highlights of the 3rd day of the Democratic National Convention.

The evening was officially hosted by Indian-American actress and comedian Mindy Kaling, best known for starring on the syndicated comedy television show The Office.
Picking up on the Tuesday night music/dance party vibe, DNC 2024 Day 3 kicked the energy up a notch with a live performance from the legendary Stevie Wonder, who revved everybody up with his song “Higher Ground.” Next was John Legend featuring Sheila E., who performed the tune “Let’s Go Crazy” by the late Minnesota artist Prince.  Needless to say, the Delegates were on their feet dancing in the aisles and turning Chicago’s United Center into an exuberant dance party.
Saturday Night Live actor Kenan Thompson mocked the GOP’s Project 2025 book with a makeshift game show involving 5 Americans playing from home. Several social media influencers of Gen Z spoke directly to younger voters on behalf of Harris-Walz. Surprise guest Oprah Winfrey lent her support and centered Democrats on the task at hand, saying “Let us choose common sense over nonsense because that is the best of America.”
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former President Bill Clinton, 2 distinguished elders of the party, were revered by the crowd during their remarks. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries then put his oratory skills on display by comparing Trump to an old boyfriend.
“Donald Trump is like an old boyfriend who you broke up with, but he just won’t go away. Bro, we broke up with you for a reason. We are never, ever getting back together. Been there, done that. We are NOT going back,” Jeffries said to raucous laughter.
Former Trump National Security official Olivia Troye and former Lt. Gov of Georgia Geoff Duncan — who are both Republicans — spoke frankly to the television audience and urged Americans (and, specifically Republicans) not to let Donald Trump back in The White House.
Other speakers included Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore each delivered remarks and displayed why they are the “future” of the Democratic Party and potential future presidential nominees.
However, the main event of the evening was the official introduction of Tim Walz to the American people.
His former students helped introduce Walz, including his entire winning high school football team. And then, the vice presidential nominee took the stage to make the case for why he should be elected 2nd in line to the president of the United States.
The moment Tim Walz took the stage, the camera cut to his family in the audience — and captured his son, Guz Walz, who has a “non-verbal learning disorder” and was in uncontrollable tears of pride at his dad and the ecstatic experience. Anyone who wasn’t also moved to tears by this very real moment is dead on the inside.
Ultimately, Coach Walz (who admitted he’s never had to give a speech of the magnitude to thousands of people in an arena and millions at home) was incredibly effective. He wasn’t the most charismatic or the most eloquent. He’s no Barack Obama. He’s a bit rough around the edges.  But, his down-home, plain-speaking style almost assuredly resonated with ordinary Americans, which was the exact goal of the campaign.
He’s an everyman. He’s a guy Middle America will fall in love with quickly. He’s America’s coach — and he succeeded in doing what he was chosen to do.
DNC 2024 Day 3 is now in the books and was another banger/winner!
