DON’T LOSE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE!
Several states are under fire for some rather shady laws that could suppress voter turn out and swing the presidential election in favor of the GOP.
Pennsylvania, Florida, Colorado and 20 other states have recently enacted constricting and confusing new laws, supposedly aimed at combating voter fraud. But the laws could specifically affect and shut out the elderly, veterans, Hispanic and African-American voters — votes that would overwhelmingly go for President Obama.
A new study conducted by the civil rights group Advancement Project, found that more than 10 million eligible Latino voters “could be deterred or prevented from voting in the 2012 elections.” US Attorney General Eric Holder compared the laws to the old “Jim Crow” poll tax, which effectively disenfranchised hundreds of thousands of African-American voters during the civil rights era.
This is an incredibly toxic and dangerous dirty trick being concocted by factions who have wanted Mr. Obama out of office since the day he was inaugurated. Remember, Republicans vowed in 2009 that their #1 priority would be to make Barack Obama a 1 term president. Open your eyes, people — they are doing everything possible to keep their word.
Political analysts have long predicted that some dirty schemes planned for the 2012 election could put the infamous 2000 “hanging chad” election between Al Gore and George W. Bush to shame. But make no mistake — this is not 2000. Lessons have been learned and the stakes are much higher.
If there is any inkling of impropriety or voter suppression this November like it was in 2000, God help America! Any efforts to unfairly yank the rug out from under the first duly elected and history making African-American President of the United States could be met with unthinkable consequences. Not only would there be a legal fight that would cripple the country, but (I dare say) there would likely be some social unrest as well. As the old slang saying goes “You don’t want none of this!”
To avoid any last minute tricks or surprises, voters are being urged to make sure they have at least one government issued photo ID with them when they head to the polls. Voters are also being asked to make sure their voter registration is up-to-date and valid within their current district. Finally, some states permit early voting. If you live in an early voting state, go cast your ballot NOW! Don’t wait until the last minute when a tricky new law could end up turning you away from the voting booth.
It’s time to get serious, people!
