DORIS DAY

Doris Day Doris Day, America’s sweetheart singer and actress best known for her wholesome movie roles opposite Rock Hudson and Cary Grant during the 1950s and ’60s, is being celebrated after passing away on Monday at the age of 97.

She was born Doris Mary Kappelhoff and began her career as a big band singer in 1939. She later got a break to appear on the silver screen, which led to a 20-year career as a motion picture actress.

Although fans of old cinematographic love stories are most familiar with Doris Day for her entertainment career, she became just as well known for her animal rights advocacy work in her later years. In fact, it was the Doris Day Animal Foundation that confirmed her death.

According to reports, Ms. Day “had been in excellent physical health for her age” but recently contracted pneumonia which contributed to her death.  Interestingly, she requested that no funeral or memorial services be held and no grave marker be erected.

TIM CONWAY

Doris Day Actor Tim Conway, best known as the comedic goof on the long-running CBS variety hit “The Carol Burnett Show” is being mourned after his death on Tuesday.

With such characters as “The Oldest Man” and “Mr. Tudball,” Conway was quick to ad-lib during a skit and send his fellow actors into laughing fits.

“Tim’s goal in life was to destroy [costar] Harvey Korman,” Carol Burnett said.

“Harvey wet his pants,” Conway once bragged during a 2013 interview. “Harvey never saw what I was going to do until he was actually doing the sketch. As a matter of fact, in the dentist sketch, you can actually see Harvey wet his pants from laughing.”

Tim Conway was 85.

Indeed they were…”entertainment icons.”

Wow. My grandmother and mother (both deceased) loved Doris Day and were huge fans of Carol Burnett and the tv-comedy geniuses associated with her. Tim ranked 2nd only to Carol.

So suffice it to say…as a child I grew up on a diet of some of the greatest tv comedy shows ever produced (h/t Lucille Ball) and of course Tim Conway was included in all that. His skits on the Carol Burnett Show, along with Harvey Korman….Priceless. Lol.

May Tim and Doris (and Harvey and Lucy) rest well in peace.
