DRILL BABY, DRILL
Those are the words of Sarah Palin, who always believed that the United States should drill for oil any and everywhere possible. Now, more than a week after the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded 50 miles off the Louisiana coast, killing 11 workers, injuring over a dozen more, and causing a massive oil spill that is expected to eclipse the Exxon Valdez. Yet the two most prominent political champions of offshore drilling — Sarah Palin and Michael Steele — appear not to have uttered a word about the incident…until now.
On Friday, Madam Palin took to her Facebook page to respond to her desires for more off-shore oil drilling:
“No human endeavor is ever without risk – whether it’s sending a man to the moon or extracting the necessary resources to fuel our civilization…”
“… I continue to believe in it because increased domestic oil production will make us a more secure, prosperous, and peaceful nation.”
Think Progress:[On Fox News Sunday, Fox’s Brit Hume said that, while his pro-drilling stance has not been changed by the disaster, the spill validates the concern of environmentalists who warned that such a disaster was inevitable: “Think about what the environmentalists have always said about this. Is it’s not a matter of if there’ll be a disaster of this kind resulting in this kind of offshore drilling, it’s only a matter of when. This verifies that argument, and becomes a powerful factor in the debate over what to do next.
