EARTH DAY – 40 YEARS LATER
Today is the 40th Anniversary of EARTH DAY.
On this day in 1970, millions of environmental activists gathered on college campuses and major cities throughout the country for the very first Earth Day. The various rallies, teach-ins and organizing helped galvanize action on a historic scale, including passage of the Clean Air and Clean Water acts and creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. Now 40 years later, Americans still recognize the significance of preserving the earth with a dedicated day of commemoration.
