EATING ROMNEY ALIVE
The feeding frenzy surrounding Mitt Romney’s “47%” remarks continued into a 2nd day yesterday. However, those taking a bite out of Romney were not only Democrats, but some notable Republicans as well.
Last night, President Obama appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman” and explained the importance of a president being the leader of ALL Americans and not just a certain percentage. But that was light compared to what some conservatives had to say.
Conservative icon William Kristol called Romney’s remarks “Stupid and arrogant.” NY Times columnist David Brooks defined Romney as a politician who “really doesn’t know much about the country he inhabits,” while former Bush speechwriter David Frum called Romney’s rhetoric “The worst presidential-candidate gaffe since Gerald Ford.” Ouch!
Romney’s words were indeed “stupid and arrogant” and they certainly displayed that he “really doesn’t know much about the country he inhabits.” But it was no “gaffe.” Let’s face it: Romney spoke what he really believes. His only mistake was that he got caught being honest!
If Romney wanted to shed his image of the “Thurston Howell III” wealthy, yet out of touch candidate, he just failed miserably. Calling 47% of America a bunch of irresponsible welfare recipients with an entitlement complex was beyond reprehensible. As CNN’s John King pointed out last night, much of that 47% includes veterans, elderly voters, and die hard Republicans. Demographically, the 47% are spread out across Montana, Utah and the south’s bible belt — all traditional Republican strongholds with voters Romney will desperately need come November.
Slick Mitt has since tried to justify his words as an error in speaking “off-the-cuff.” But even if he believes he could have used more politically correct language, the meat of the remarks remained the same.
No matter how anyone tries to spin it, Mitt Romney is still a mega-millionaire who keeps his cash off-shore in the Cayman Islands, who still refuses to show his tax returns — and is incredibly out of touch with the average American. So why should we elect him president again??
Your title sums it up DJ…Romney is being "eatin Alive" _and deservedly so_by darn near everybody INCLUDING some pretty influential folks who support the Republican party.
As I expressed yesterday, IMO, the man isn't fit to RUN for President let alone actually BE President.
But the irony in all of this (this being the results of the Southern strategy) is that the person who may ultimately bring down what is left of the GOP is a MORMON that the *base* despises…but the Repubs nominated him anyway!?! …Lol.
You can not make this stuff up..smh.
