Standing ovation to you Truth for bringing us the facts. And thank you DJ for covering this important story. I agree with everything that has been said. This is nothing short of criminal and heads should roll. But I don't see what they can do after the bottle water runs out in a few months. Like Truth said this is a catastrophe and it's sad it effects poor people. They can't just up and leave or go move somewhere else. Plus a doctor already said lead is already in childrens blood. This place needs a miracle.

Snyder and former Mayor Dayne Walling.

Flint is mostly a blue-collar, working-class city with the racial make-up being predominantly Black at 56.6%, White population at 37.4%, Hispanic or Latino at 3.9%, Native American at 0.5% and Asian at 0.5%.

Note: Trends in Flint, MI Real Median Household Income since 2005

The current median household income for Flint is $41,682. Real median household income peaked in 2005 at $51,489 and is now $9,807 (19.05%) lower. […] – Source: U.S. Census- Dept of Numbers

Make NO mistake about it. What happend in Flint would NEVER have happend in an affluent community…and most assuredly NOT an affluent predominantly White community.

However, I truly believe this is moreso about the socio-economic status of most of the residents. Poor, and working-class, low-to-lower middle income families are generally treated like crap in this country. Flint is just the latest, and more visible example of it (and look how long it took to get national attention).

WSOC TV: "What did local and state officials know and when did they know it?"

Virginia Tech researchers performed an independent study whose results began to be made known in February, 2015. The study found the water was highly corrosive and since many service lines in Flint were made of lead, the lines were being compromised and lead was being leached into the city’s water supply.

According to an ABC News timeline of the events surrounding the water issues, in March, 2015, the city commited to spending $2.24 million on immediate improvements to its water supply. A week later, they said the quality of the water had improved and the water met all state and federal standards for safety

According to the Detroit News, the state Department of Environmental Quality knew about the lack of corrosion control in the water supply as early as April of 2015. Email exchanges between EPA Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman and former Flint Mayor Dayne Walling showed a “lack of urgency” over the matter, according to the report.

By September, 2015, a group of doctors are urging Flint officials to stop using the Flint River as a water source as they are seeing high levels of lead in children’s blood. State regulators assured the group that the water was safe. [….]

So….not only did officials at every level of governement (federal. state and county) play fast and loose with the lives of Flint residents (especially the children) those officials KNEW about the problem at least 10 MONTHS before they were finally forced into admitting it.

Like I said, Several people shoudl be looking at criminal charges.
