Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ Woman Released From Jail

Marissa Alexander was released from jail late last week on a bond totaling 200,009. After receiving a 20 year prison sentence in 2012, Alexander will now face a new trial.
In a statement released Thanksgiving morning, the Free Marissa Now Mobilization Campaign said:
“We are thrilled that Ms. Alexander will be able to prepare for her new trial amid the support and love of her children and family from whom she has been separated far too long.”

Like George Zimmerman, Marissa Alexander discharged a weapon in Florida. Unlike Zimmerman, she was immediately arrested, convicted and sentenced to jail, despite the fact that she did not kill or injure anyone. Moreover, a judge and jury rejected Alexander’s “Stand Your Ground” defense, while George Zimmerman nearly never went to trial because of it. Hmmm…
Alexander now faces a new trial on March 31, 2014. Let’s see if she gets justice and a fair trial this time around.
