Former Gov. Sanford Wins In South Carolina
Disgraced former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford is heading back to congress.
The Republican Sanford, whose marriage and political career ended in 2009 after he admitted having an affair with an Argentinian woman, defeated Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch in last night’s election. Colbert Busch is the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert.
Colbert Busch led in late polls, but her chances were always an uphill climb in the Republican stronghold of South Carolina. She raised countless dollars and received national attention with the help of her brother and his TV show, “The Colbert Report.” Still, it was not enough to overcome the southern GOP machine.
Sanford was ready to quit politics for good if he was not victorious in last night’s election. His victory in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District means he will replace Republican Tim Scott, who was appointed to the Senate. Sanford will now return to the seat he held from 1995 to 2001.

Uh-huh. It's South Carolina after all. Not to mention that IMO most pre-election polls haven't meant squat in years.
Having spent a year in S.C. (08 to 09) I can tell you that THIS outcome didn't suprise me in the least.
Let's me just say that THAT experience was a Real eye-opener.
