It’s been a busy news week, particularly since this is the first week back after the holiday season. So, let’s dive right in and take a look at this week’s Friday News Round-up.

HOUSE SPEAKER INSANITY

Proving true the old adage that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while somehow expecting a different result, Republicans in the US House of Representatives continue to make a clown show out of the selection of a new Speaker of the House.

As of Thursday night, GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy has been defeated a historic 11 times in his quest to be the Speaker of the 118th Congress and 2nd in line to the presidency. With all the GOP infighting and trampling over each other in search of power combined with the clear knowledge that this is only the beginning of the trouble to come, one wonders why McCarthy would still want the job at this point.

Friday News Round-Up

Pope Francis presided over the funeral mass of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (retired), who was laid to rest in Rome on Thursday following a special requiem service in celebration of his life and service to Catholicism. Benedict passed away on December 31, 2022, at The Vatican. He was 95.

CAPITOL INSURRECTION ANNIVERSARY

Today is the 2nd anniversary of the deadly Capitol Hill insurrection.

On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump stirred up a mob of his MAGA followers and sent them to the US Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of Joe Biden as the duly-elected President of the United States. It was an ugly day in the history of America and one that won’t soon be forgotten.

A day that will live in infamy for Our nation. But a day we must NOT forget, nonetheless.

I can’t lie……

When I think about today, Jan. 6, and what happened on this day 3 yrs ago – the fact that the Majority of Repubs sitting in positions of power on Capitol Hill today are the same Treasonous traitors who participated in that insurrection (directly or indirectly) – I cannot help but question HOW is it that those same pieces of garbage are still allowed to step foot anywhere near Our House of Congress?!

They are, at the very least, Guilty of having engaged in seditious acts against Our nation, Our government, and Our democracy.

Words ostensibly uttered by Pres. Teddy Roosevelt about patriotism and putting country above party published in 1918 toward the end of World War I. Roosevelt, served as the 26th president of the United States between 1901 and 1909.
