George Santos (finally) Indicted For Lying
Oh, no. Say it ain’t so. The lies of George Santos have FINALLY caught up with him!
Politics :
On Wednesday, GOP Rep. George Santos of New York was indicted on 13 charges in federal court over accusations that he lied to donors and misrepresented his finances to the public and government agencies. Among the 13 charges are 7 counts of wire fraud, 3 counts of money laundering, 1 count of theft of public funds, and 2 counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.
Santos surrendered and was taken into custody by federal agents on Wednesday afternoon. However, he was later released on a $500,000 bond on the promise that he will return to court on June 30th before US District Judge Joanna Seybert.
“It’s a witch hunt,” Santos said shortly after appearing in court while echoing a claim often heard from Donald Trump. “I’m going to fight my battle. I’m going to deliver. I’m going to fight the witch hunt. I am going to take care of clearing my name, and I look forward to doing that.”
Clearing his name will be a tall order since Santos is being charged with fraud, money laundering, and more.
“This indictment seeks to hold Santos accountable for various alleged fraudulent schemes and brazen misrepresentations,” US Attorney Breon Peace said in a statement. “Taken together, the allegations in the indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself. He used political contributions to line his pockets, unlawfully applied for unemployment benefits that should have gone to New Yorkers who had lost their jobs due to the pandemic, and lied to the House of Representatives.”
Although the GOP has remained eerily silent regarding Rep. Santos and the charges they knew were coming, at least one fellow Republican has called for the congressman to either step down or be expelled.
“The people of New York’s 3rd district deserve a voice in Congress,” GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas tweeted. “George Santos should be immediately expelled from Congress and a special election initiated at the soonest possible date.”
If convicted, Rep. Santos would be forced to resign from Congress. He’d also be subject to a maximum jail time of 20 years solely for the top charge of wire fraud. If found guilty on other charges, the judge could decide to make other sentences run concurrently — a move that could keep him behind bars until he is old and gray.
OK WASSUP! discusses Politics:
George Santos finally faces the music.
When you lie, without hesitation or shame, about the death of your own mother (who was actually still alive for years AFTER he began telling that lie) you will lie about anything.
Seriously, do we even know for sure that “George Santos” is this clown’s real name?
