George Santos Scandal Adds Fuel To The Fire

Spread The Love

A new George Santos scandal is adding more fuel to the already-burning dumpster fire known as the Republican Party.

Politics :
In case you’re unaware, George Santos is a pathological liar. He’s also the junior GOP congressman representing New York in the US House of Representatives. Santos lied his way into Congress. He lied to his fellow lawmakers on his financial disclosure form. He lied about being Jewish. He even lied about nonsensical things, such as where he went to college and his own mother’s death. However, it’s a fresh set of lies that has caught the attention of officials in New York State and given birth to a new George Santos scandal.

George Santos Scandal

Santos was formally indicted earlier this year for myriad lies. However, on Tuesday, federal prosecutors filed 23 new charges against him for alleged wire fraud, money laundering, theft of public funds, conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, aggravated identity theft, access device fraud, false statements to the Federal Election Commission and falsifying records to obstruct the commission. Their indictment included another 10 charges regarding claims that Santos stole family members’ identities and made unauthorized purchases on donors’ credit cards.

According to The New York Times, Santos stole a donor’s credit card number (from donation records) and then transferred more than $11,000 to his own bank account. He also swindled $50,000 from 2 other donors using a fake nonprofit, then used the money to buy designer goods and settle personal debts.

“This indictment seeks to hold Santos accountable for various alleged fraudulent schemes and brazen misrepresentations,” US Attorney Peace said. “Taken together, the allegations in the indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself.”

On Wednesday, 5 House Republicans signaled that they’d had enough of George Santos and proved as much by sponsoring a resolution to expel him from Congress.

“Today, I’ll be introducing an expulsion resolution to rid the People’s House of fraudster, George Santos,” GOP Rep. Anthony D’Esposito of New York posted on X (Twitter). D’Esposito, who represents a Long Island district neighboring Santos, said Reps. Nick LaLota, Mike Lawler, Marc Molinaro, Brandon Williams, and Nick Langworthy were joining him in co-sponsoring the resolution.

When asked to comment on all the fraud charges levied against him, Santos refused. Instead, he told reporters that no matter the charges, he had no plans to resign. His lawyer, Joseph Murray, also declined to comment.

George Santos Scandal

With Republicans in the House of Representatives already in disarray, fighting among each other, seeking revenge against GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz for leading the charge to kick out Kevin McCarthy, and still without a new House Speaker, the last thing they needed was another George Santos scandal to draw more attention to their dysfunction.

Too bad for them, but that’s exactly what they got!

New York Times: A clutch of Republican House members from New York began pushing on Wednesday to expel one of their own, Representative George Santos, amid mounting federal charges that he defrauded donors and lied about his campaign finances. The group of six New York freshmen announced plans to swiftly introduce an expulsion resolution to try to capitalize on a spate of new charges against Mr. Santos and a vacuum in House Republican leadership, hoping to whip up enough support to rid themselves and their party of a major political liability ahead of next year’s elections. “We feel that enough’s enough,” said Representative Anthony D’Esposito, one of the most vulnerable Republican freshman, who represents an adjoining New York district to Mr. Santos’s. “He’s a stain on the institution.” As the House’s most extreme form of punishment, expulsion requires a two-thirds supermajority to pass, a barrier so high that it has… Read more »

Mr.BD

This fool really needs to go. You know you are done when your own party turns on you.

Mr.BD

Repubs are really going through it these days. Between the speaker fight and now this they look real foolish. I wonder if people will still vote for them next year.
