George W. Bush Dedicates Library
“I’m happy to be out of the limelight. I truly am,” Bush said, seemingly giddy to no longer be under public scrutiny. He has shunned opportunities to appear at public events, or at official events with Presidents Obama, Clinton and Carter. Aside from playing golf and being a family man, the former leader of the free world is a hermit — and he’s relishing it all.
“My life is obviously much simpler than it was in the past, but in many ways the simplicity creates contentment,” the new grandfather said.
Why has this 2 term president shied away from almost every opportunity for a public role? Is he really tired of his (short) public life and wanting to spend time with his family? Or could he be embarrassed by his presidency and the dire state he left the country in at his exit?
This library will be “a place to lay out facts,” Bush said, not a forum to explain policies such as the war with Iraq or his administration’s handling of Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath. “There’s no need to defend myself. I did what I did and ultimately history will judge.”
