George Zimmerman Trial Begins
George Zimmerman, the self-appointed neighborhood watchman who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a Sanford, Florida community, is finally about to find out his fate.
More than a year after the death of young Trayvon and following last week’s selection of a jury of all women and no African-Americans, opening arguments are set to begin today in a trial that will undoubtedly be one for the books.
Prosecutors are prepped to prove that Zimmerman had a vendetta against minorities in the community and set out to make an example of Martin on the night he shot him. Zimmerman, who is not expected to take the stand, will say that he acted in self defense of his life and that Martin was stalking him. A recording of someone yelling for help prior to the sound of the lethal gunshot will be a centerpiece of the trial. Prosecutors will show that the screams were of the teenager only moments before he was shot in cold blood, however defense attorney’s will attempt to convince the jury that the screams were from Zimmerman who was in a fight for his life.
OK WASSUP! will closely follow details of the trial and will provide a discussion forum here until a verdict is reached.
