But the party’s leadership has spent much of the last three decades cultivating distrust (to say nothing of Fear and Anger) among its rank and file about the legitimacy of these institutions, particularly the government and the news media. This may have contributed to the party’s electoral successes. But it’s also possible that Republican elites have neutered their ability to influence how voters decide on a candidate. If so, they may end up with Mr. Gingrich rather than Mr. Romney."    ~ Nate Silvers Thurs. Dec. 8, 2011The Republican *establishment* is in a major panic and they should be. They backed a the political equivalent of a schnauzer (Romney) while GOP base voters want (and believe that Gingrinch is) a Pitbull. The more the Repub *establishment* shoots their mouths off in an effort to "bring down Newt," the more support he seems to get from GOP base voters, across the country. In essence, the GOP is well into the beginning stages of a bloody war with ITSELF and by the time it's all over (election day next year) the GOP will have lost. You can NOT spend the past 30 yrs (at least) actively reaching out to the kinds of working-class/and poor so-called "Real" Americans" the GOP elites have reached out to, and then spend that same amount of time stoking the flames (fear of *others,* paranoia, anger, mistrust, Hatred) of a "prairie Fire" that burns ever so natrually within that particular population__without that same *Fire* eventually blowing back on you.   No matter who wins the GOP nomination this time_the GOP (the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, heck even Nixon and Reagan)_that party is gone.

So is Santorum. No word as of yet from Perry or Bachmann.Hunstman and Ron Paul wasted no time in declining the invite several days ago. They denounced the event for the obvious reason: Such a carnival show is beneath the dignity of anyone aspiring to be found fit to serve in the highest office of the land.    Most of the so-called *Conservative* intelligentsia wasted no time in publicly denouncing the event citing the same reason. Romney just got around to declining the invite yesterday evening. However, in Romney fashion he gave some weasely reason for not being able to attend. It was clear he didn't want to anger Trump, which only serves to reinforce the perception that Romney's a weak candidate who's simply NOT up to the tasck of taking on_let alone beating_Pres. Obama. SEE: "Newt Gingrich Challenges Anti-Trump Debate Candidates: Being ‘Afraid’ Of Trump Is ‘Weak’http://hotair.com/headlines/archives/2011/12/07/g…Newt will try to spin this in his favor. He's got no choice. Newt's not the brilliant *intellectual* he fancies himself to be. But he's no dummy either. Upon reflection, he knows that accepting Trumps invite was a bone-headed impulsive (BAD)decision. Thus far, comments on right-wing blogs indicate that most GOP *base* voters don't see this (him accepting the invite) as a deal-breaker. In fact, *birthers* love it. But Newt knows he's really got to mind his step and keep his self-destructive habits in-check from here on out. Gonna be interesting to see how he manages this debate situation. Donald may do him a favor and cancel it(?) We shall see….

It seems the more they've pushed that ridicules narrative "Romney the inevitable nominee", the angrier and angrier the GOP *base* gets_and the more determined they are to defeat Mitt.     "Will Newt Gingrich actually end up winning the Republican nomination for president?"   It depends. I'd say, as of right now, he has a pretty good shot at it. However, if he should commit some NEW self-destructive act, his *Fall* will be quick. But word to the pundit-idiots: the majority of GOP base voters care NOT one whit about Newt's *old* offenses.    "Will Republicans get past the fact he's a Mormon and nominate Mitt Romney?"     Not looking good for Mitt…smh. Not looking good at all. Even if he somehow wins the nomination, enthusiasm among GOP base voters to elect him President will be tepid at best.    "Or could some surprise GOP candidate emerge at the 11th hour and catch everyone off guard?'   Certainly, Palin's hard-core supporters would LOVE to see her jump in and "save the day."     Given the circus the Repub Party has become, anything_and I do mean ANYTHING_could happen.</span>
