Good Guy With A Gun + Black = DEAD!
- How a good (Black) man with a gun ended up dead anyway.
Whoever said ‘The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun’ is a LIAR! Especially when that good guy happens to be black.
Police Brutality
Jemel Roberson, a 26-year-old church musician and a security guard at Manny’s Blue Room Bar in Robbins, Illinois wanted to be a police officer. He was also that proverbial ‘good guy with a gun.’ However, when a man opened fire inside the bar, Roberson quickly became a dead guy with a gun at the hands of police in a case of mistaken identity.
The horrible night began when Roberson asked a group of intoxicated men to leave the bar around 4am last Sunday. However, one of them returned to the bar with a gun and began shooting out of anger. Roberson, who had a valid FOID card (Firearm Owners Identification) and was armed, was able to apprehend the man outside and prevent anyone on the scene from being harmed.
According to witness Adam Harris, “He had somebody on the ground with his knee in [his] back, with his gun in his back like, ‘Don’t move.’”
Roberson had done his job. He had stopped a deadly shooting. He was a hero.
Except when police arrived, they didn’t see a “hero.” All they saw was a black man with a gun. So they immediately fired 5 shots at Roberson and killed him.
“We all yelled. ‘He’s a security. He’s a security,’ and without … giving any thought, they shot him,” Harris said. “The vest said security as well … and they shot him in the side.”
So, the next time you hear that mumbo jumbo about a ‘good guy with a gun,’ just remember the name Jemel Roberson and how that rhetoric doesn’t apply to black men.
We honor Jemel Roberson today and all who die at the hands of guns by civilians OR police.

Whoever said ‘The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun’ is a LIAR! Especially when that good guy happens to be black. […] You got that right DJ..!!! And WE (Black Americans) have always known THAT. The sad truth is, in the eyes of too many White people, and especially White Cops, there’s no such thing as a “good” Black man…let alone a “good” Black man with a gun! Add to that the other OBVIOUS truth – many cops AREN’T fit to be cops in the first place. They are SCARED White men with badges who are too gripped by FEAR to think straight most of the time. Protect and serve is NOT what they do. They shoot first and ask questions AFTER the fact…..AFTER the damage is done. Thoughts and prayers for this young man and his family. But… Read more »
