GOOGLE TV

Spread The Love
As if we don’t have plenty of Google already in our lives, get ready for more.

According to the New York Times, Google is partnering with Sony, Intel and others to create a new TV platform called Google TV.  This new creation would be an Android-powered Internet platform aimed at improving web browsing on TV sets and allowing users to navigate sites with the simple touch of the remote.  Apple TV already does something similar by allowing viewers to buy or rent movies from its iTunes Store, watch YouTube, and more.  Roku and Boxee have also introduced new products that allows consumers to view ever growing web content and television shows on its boxes.  But Google plans to go further, utilizing its vast Internet content along with apps tailored specifically for televisions to provide a brand new viewing experience. Google TV would allow users to run apps on their sets, giving developers a fresh new challenge in creating a new suite of TV applications.
Here’s how The New York Times describes the Google TV project:

Some existing televisions and set-top boxes offer access to Web content, but the choice of sites is limited. Google intends to open its TV platform, which is based on its Android operating system for smartphones, to software developers. The company hopes the move will spur the same outpouring of creativity that consumers have seen in applications for cellphones.
