GOP Governors Ditch Trump, Accept Masks
They spent months following the Trump doctrine against wearing masks. Now, several GOP governors have tired of watching their citizens die from COVID-19 and have ditched Trumpism in favor of mask mandates.
Current Events
When the novel coronavirus overtook New York, California, and other “blue” states back in March, it was easy for North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, and other locales in the heartland to ignore warnings of a global pandemic and to simply go about their regular ways of life.
That was then and this is now.
.
Within just the past 7 days, no states have had more new Covid-19 infections, hospitalizations, and deaths than North and South Dakota — and Iowa, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Idaho are not far behind. Now, with Donald Trump on the way out and President-elect Biden already encouraging the use of masks as a lifesaver rather than a political issue, GOP governors are finally hopping onboard and reluctantly admitting that it takes ALL of us doing our part to stop the deadly pandemic.
North Dakota’s Gov. Doug Burgum had resisted the use of masks since the pandemic began. However, his position became untenable in recent weeks when COVID-19 began to run through his state like a freight train. Now, the governor has issued new rules that not only require people to wear masks indoors but limit indoor gatherings as well.
“Right now, the data demands a higher level of mitigation efforts to reverse these dangerous trends, to slow the spread of this virus, and to avoid the need for economic shutdowns,” Burgum said. “Our situation has changed, and we must change with it.”
Gov. Mark Gordon of Wyoming initially advised residents to take “personal responsibility” for their own health and safety. However, with Wyoming deemed to have the 4th highest number of daily new coronavirus cases per capita over the past 7 days, he has changed his tune and switched to a mask mandate.
“We’ve come to the profound conclusion that what we’ve been doing hasn’t been working.” – Gov. Brad Little, Idaho
.
In Iowa, not only did Gov. Kim Reynolds resist the concept of wearing masks in her state, but she even attended a Trump rally without a mask — which was in direct violation of her own rule regarding gatherings. Now, with her state being ravaged by the virus, she has done a complete 180 and reversed course.
“I don’t want to do this,” Gov. Reynolds said this week, joining a wave of GOP governors who originally resisted masks but now find it necessary to save lives.
Add Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and Idaho Gov. Brad Little to the list of Republicans who’ve ditched the Donald Trump anti-mask dogma in favor of saving lives. However, Trump disciple and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem remains a hold-out and has chosen to continue ignoring the benefits of masks and the growing pandemic.
.
“There are many others who question the effectiveness of masks, and South Dakotans should take the time to read this information so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families,” she said. “As I’ve said before, if folks want to wear a mask, they should be free to do so. Similarly, those who don’t want to wear a mask shouldn’t be shamed into wearing one. And government should not mandate it.”
Oh, Gov. Noem. How many more people have to die before you wake up out of your Trump stupor and accept reality?
When children are left in charge of anything the possibility that really bad things can happen is very likely. When dangerous children are left in charge the probability that absolutely horrific things will happen is almost a given.
Like their man-Child *leader* each of these governors have shown themself to be a dangerous Child in an adult body. And predictably, their so-called “leadership” has led to some absolutely horrific outcomes.
So now…NOW that they can no longer PRETEND they don’t see the nightmare that’s been staring ALL of Us right in the face since Feb. of this year; NOW with 11.6 Million+ people infected in America and the virus raging all across this country leaving a Quarter Million+ Americans DEAD and those numbers will continue to rise for quite some time to come……….
NOW most Repub governors are saying “wear a mask.” ….smh!
