THIS will surely scare the bajeezuz outta right-wing Christianists:The Associated Press-Wed.(evening) 6/3/09"N.H. Legislature Approves Gay Marriage"[CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire became the sixth state to legalize gay marriage after the Senate and House passed key language on religious rights and Gov. John Lynch — who personally opposes gay marriage — signed the legislation Wednesday afternoon. After rallies outside the Statehouse by both sides in the morning, the last of three bills in the package went to the Senate, which approved it 14-10 Wednesday afternoon.Cheers from the gallery greeted the key vote in the House, which passed it 198-176. Surrounded by gay marriage supporters, Lynch signed the bill about an hour later.''Today, we are standing up for the liberties of same-sex couples by making clear that they will receive the same rights, responsibilities — and respect — under New Hampshire law,'' Lynch said.Lynch, a Democrat, had promised a veto if the law didn't clearly spell out that churches and religious groups would not be forced to officiate at gay marriages or provide other services. Legislators made the changes. The New Hampshire law will take effect Jan. 1, exactly two years after the state began recognizing civil unions.]Complete story: <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009/06/03/us/AP-US-XGR-Gay-Marriage-New-Hampshire.html?_r=3&hphttp://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009/06/03/us/AP-… />Andrew Sullivan:“Marriage equality arrives in that traditionally conservative/libertarian state. This is the sixth state to achieve equality for all its citizens in its marriage laws, and the third to achieve it legislatively. The canard of judicial activism is collapsing.”

Reagan until McCain’s loss to Obama, the Southern Strategy had worked for that Party. Now, thanks, to a “Changing” America, the Southern Strategy may have finally played out???It's become the political equivalent of the “Big Muddy” for the GOP which finds itself STUCK in 19th century America_at the mercy of a poliical “base”, who want practically NOTHING to do with 21st century America and progress. “should the Republicans make an effort to expand their base — among whites who are moderate or less religious, and/or the various nonwhite groups who to this point are largely ignoring the Republican Party in favor of the Democrats?”Yes, it should. But it won’t because its “base" will not allow it. The Republican Party is d*mned with_and without_the support of its “base.”And that’s one h*ll of a fix to be in_smh.
