GOP REP COMPARES OBAMA TO ‘Tar Baby’
“Even if some people say, ‘Well the Republicans should have done this or they should have done that,’ they will hold the President responsible. Now, I don’t even want to have to be associated with him. It’s like touching a tar baby and you get it, you’re stuck, and you’re a part of the problem now and you can’t get away.”
Those are the words of Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado, who was forced to apologize after making a controversial comparison of a “tar baby” to the President of the United States. The congressman made the comments on a local radio show last week while discussing President Obama and his approach to the debt ceiling debate.
Since the radio show, the congressman’s comments went viral, prompting him to wonder what all the fuss was about. But he has since come to his senses and been told by his office recognized he made a poor choice in words.
According to a press release, Lamborn sent a personal letter to President Obama on Monday “apologizing for using a term some find insensitive.” His office said the congressman was “attempting to tell a radio audience last week that the president’s policies have created an economic quagmire for the nation and are responsible for the dismal economic conditions our country faces. He regrets that he chose the phrase ‘tar baby,’ rather than the word ‘quagmire.’ The congressman is confident that the president will accept his heartfelt apology.”
Oh, when will they learn — or was he fully aware of what he was saying? Hmmm…
