Government Shutdown Looms
Top News Today
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and his Tea Party cohorts within the GOP continue to lead a no-win suicide mission to defund Obamacare, which is next to impossible to happen. The health care initiative is the law of the land and can only be repealed with the cooperation of the House and the Senate, but the Democratically controlled Senate has no intention of changing the law. Or in the words of President Obama to the GOP: “Knock it off! That’s not going to happen.”
The Republican led House has been trying to slip “Obamacare-killing” tactics into a bill to continue funding the government, but the Democratic Senate has not been fooled by the slight of hand and have remained steadfast that Obamacare has nothing to do with preventing a total government shutdown. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has signaled that when the senate convenes later today it will reject the GOP bill, leaving Republicans merely hours to come up with a solution to keep the U.S. government open for business.

Over the weekend, an angry shouting match on the House floor showed just how divided and far from a solution both sides have become. Democrats insisted that Republicans are still sour over losing the presidency again in 2012 and have been putting their extreme dislike for the president over the good of the country. Republicans argued that they have the public on their side and were acting to protect Americans from a harmful and unpopular law that was already a proven failure.
“This is an astoundingly irresponsible way to govern,” Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, a Republican, said, adding that a fully functioning military went beyond its uniformed forces to its civilian personnel. “If this continues, we will have a country that is ungovernable.”

If the government shuts down tonight at midnight, it will be the first time that’s happened in 17 years. Military families would go unpaid. Air traffic controllers would go unpaid. More than 800,000 federal workers deemed nonessential would be furloughed. Federal programs and benefit checks would be missed. Republicans would reap all the blame, yet are still willing to burn down the entire house over their contempt of President Obama and not getting their way. Stay tuned…

By their very words and deeds I'd say there is a fringe right-wing minority (perhaps even a majority?) of House Repubs who want to destroy our government at ANY and ALL cost. They could not care less about Our nation or the American people. And if they have their way, the Shutdown will happen.
We're not dealing with rational or intelligent people. They are (mostly) "haters" driven by blind hatred of "Others," and especially the President.
I sincerely hope that …between the Southern Strategy (all those racist Repub primary voters) and Ted Cruz (and his ilk) …we are witnessing the last days of that abhorent party.
