Has GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley sold his soul to the devil?
Politics
Sen. Grassley had been one of the few Republican politicians to maintain morals and a conscience during the Donald Trump era. It was the Iowa senator who ignored many of his conservative colleagues and voted on January 6th to certify Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election. He is also the senator who was forthright with Trump in telling him that his lawsuits filed after the election had failed and that “politicians in Washington should not second guess the courts once they have ruled.”
Grassley also conveyed a damning message to Trump following his February impeachment trial, saying “President Trump continued to argue that the election had been stolen even though the courts didn’t back up his claims,” and “belittled and harassed elected officials across the country to get his way.” Grassley then said Trump “encouraged his own, loyal vice president, Mike Pence, to take extraordinary and unconstitutional actions during the Electoral College count.”
Grassley continued bluntly: “There’s no doubt in my mind that President Trump’s language was extreme, aggressive, and irresponsible” regarding his response to the January 6th Capitol Hill insurrection conducted by his MAGA sycophants — and that Trump “must take responsibility for their destructive actions that day.”
Well, that was then and this is now.
During a recent Iowa rally, Sen. Grassley stood proudly by Donald Trump’s side — beaming from ear to ear as Trump rewarded the 88-year-old senator with his endorsement for reelection. What’s worse is that Grassley gleefully accepted.
I offer a “complete and total endorsement for re-election” to Sen. Grassley, Trump told the Iowa crowd.
Now that he’s following Trump’s marching orders and doing his bidding, the Iowa Senator explained why he traded in his soul for a coveted Trump endorsement.
“If I didn’t accept the endorsement of a person that’s got 91% of the Republican voters in Iowa, I wouldn’t be too smart,” the senator said without shame.
Joining Grassley at the Iowa rally was GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson — the same Ashley Hinson who said only a few months ago: “I believe the President bears responsibility [for the January 6th riot], and that is why I urged him personally to call off those who were violently storming the Capitol last week. I wish he had spoken up sooner, but he did not.”
Can you spell HYPOCRITE?
The entire GOP sold its soul to the devil a long time ago, soon after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act into law in 1964.
Trump simply empowered them to finally pull off their “white hoods” and show their True faces.
Grassley is just the latest GOP poseur to pull off his “hood” and show his true self.
