Greene vs Johnson: GOP – Here We Go Again!

Spread The Love

Don’t look now, but the Greene vs Johnson showdown is a go!

Politics :
In case you were wondering, Greene vs Johnson is not a prize fight or a boxing match. Instead, it’s the brewing battle between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and US Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. Or, to put it further into perspective, only 6 months after forcibly removing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Republicans are infighting again and ready to kick yet another one to the curb.

Greene vs Johnson

Marjorie Taylor Greene is from the Donald Trump school of thought. It’s either her way or no way. She has no interest in actually governing the United States. Never has. She only went to Congress to force the MAGA agenda forward or else burn it all down trying.

When Greene and her GOP cohorts elected Mike Johnson as the new Speaker of the House, she (and others) were somehow of the belief that despite their razor-thin majority, they could damn the Democrats and push their plans through without fail. Too bad Greene and other modern-day Republicans arrived at Congress with zero experience and no idea how government actually works. Too bad they’ve been unaware that bills need votes and only pass by political compromise and not just because they say so.

Greene vs Johnson

So, therein lies the problem in the Greene vs Johnson showdown. MTG is angry with Speaker Johnson because he recognized he had no choice but to work with Democrats in order to get things done. She’s angry that Johnson compromised with Democrats to keep the government open rather than allowing it to shut down unless MAGA got its way. And she’s angry that President Biden’s plan to further fund Ukraine’s defense against Russia appears to be on track.

“This has been a complete and total surrender, if not complete and total lockstep with, the Democrats’ agenda that has angered the Republican base so much and given them very little reason to vote for a Republican House majority,” Greene wrote in her five-page letter to oust Johnson.

She went on to label him “a Democrat,” claimed he has the same politics as (former Democratic House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi, called his proposal to loan Ukraine money a “steaming pile of bullshit,” then filed a motion to remove him,

However, Speaker Johnson gets it. He understands in a Congress with 218 Republicans to 213 Democrats and 4 vacancies, he only has a 1-vote majority. Or, in other words, he knows that nothing will happen without the blessing of the Democrats.

“We are not going to get, because of that reality, we are not going to be able to do big transformational changes that we’d like, that we know are necessary,” Johnson said prior to a Wednesday meeting with Greene. “We will never get 100% of what we want and believe is necessary for the country because that’s the reality. It’s a matter of math in the Congress.”

Regrettably, MTG seems to have forgotten how many days and votes it took to find a new speaker, the political embarrassment the last Republican fight caused her party, or that one of her own congressional colleagues said “The Lord Jesus himself couldn’t control this (Republican) conference” and that nobody else wants the job.

She’s also oblivious to the fact that very few Republicans want anything to do with her stunts or concocted Greene vs Johnson battle.

After Greene sent a letter to Republicans spelling out her plans to oust Johnson, one GOP congressman told Axios that “most people are exhausted” by Greene’s antics. He added, “Don’t bother us. Airing your grievances is unnecessary.”

Rep. Larry Bucshon said he had no plans to even read the letter or support Greene. Rep. Mike Carey called the letter “worthless” and Greene’s threats “absolutely ridiculous.” Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good said, “I don’t have any comment on anything she does.” However, he added: “Nobody cares what Marjorie Taylor Greene says or thinks. And she’s a one-man show. She’s grandstanding, and she wants attention.”

Speaker Johnson

Marjorie Taylor Greene met with Speaker Johnson on Wednesday to air out her grievances and (in Johnson’s mind) to avoid another round of “chaos” in the House of Representatives.

Still, with MTG coming from the Donald Trump School of Tricks, don’t be surprised if she attempts to burn the whole House to the ground just to get her way.

DJ I must apologize to you and to your other readers because I’ve said this so many times and I’m about to say it again.

These right wing fools are dangerous and mostly “slooow” children in adult bodies.

The fact that so many of them have been elected to high office within our government speaks to Our collective shame!

You got that right Truth. America has been dumbing down things for a while. This is the result you get when you do it.

2nd only to Trump, Marjorie Taylor Green is in a “Special” league all her own, within the Republican party.

She is the perfect prototype for what was to eventually become that “Special” kind of Repub leader, among Repub leaders, going back to the Newt Gingrinch and Rush Limbaugh era.

Dangerous.Dummies! 😳

They are clowns all of them. The Repubs really need to lose and let that party die out. It is not the GOP anymore but a bunch of misfits rolled into one.

USA Today: Just days after returning from a two-week recess, right-wing fury – spurred on by former President Donald Trump – brought the House to a standstill in a significant blow to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., as he grapples with a threat to his leadership post. Nineteen House Republicans shot down a procedural step known as a “rule” vote in the House on a controversial spying law that has renewed GOP infighting. The move effectively froze the House and left the legislation in a state of limbo. In the days leading up to the vote, House Republicans were confident they could take the lead on renewal of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act – or FISA – and pass it this week. But it quickly became apparent that several conservative hard-liners, furious at Johnson and accusing leaders of leaving their voices out, were angling to shut down the bill. Trump… Read more »
