Happy Birthday ObamaCare
On March 23, 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was passed. Now, 3 years later, the act which has been nicknamed “ObamaCare” is only months from reality.
Soon after the sweeping health care bill was passed, Republicans renamed it “ObamaCare,” in the hopes of demonizing it and turning the country against it. But President Obama called their bluff and received the nickname as a compliment, using the term on the campaign trail to his advantage.
The main elements of ObamaCare will kick in January 1, 2014, when many millions of uninsured Americans will gain coverage. However, the bill has already thrown a lifeline to countless citizens who are at high risk of losing insurance or being uninsured.
ObamaCare is expected to be a “godsend” for young adults who traditionally lose coverage under their parents’ plans, as well as those with chronic health problems. By its 4th birthday next year, it should already be well on its way toward reforming America’s costly and dysfunctional health care system.
Has it been three years already? Seems like it's taking a long time to get started though. I'm looking forward to it.
