In an effort to salvage Health Care reform once it reaches the Senate, as well as to get more Democratic Senators on the bandwagon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has pulled a bit of a magic trick out of his sleeve.
Reaching out to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanual for assistance, Sen. Reid and Mr. Emanuel sought and have now gotten the help of former President Bill Clinton. Mr. Clinton, who is the most recent former president to attempt such a sweeping overhaul of health care during his tenure, will appear on Capitol Hill next Tuesday for a bit of a “pep talk” with Democratic lawmakers. According to a senate aide “It really was that they just wanted to bring in somebody who had been there and done that; somebody who has been in the trenches, who would tell them, ‘Don’t give up now.’ ” Of course, bringing in a heavy-hitting Democrat like Bill Clinton at this time would be more than welcome. Sen. Reid’s office is hopeful that Mr. Clinton’s visit will spur enough good will and political momentum behind reform’s passage to essentially make it inevitable.
