After unwisely dodging and mixing up stories regarding the mounting sexual harassment charges being levied against him, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was finally forced to talk.
Cain held a news conference yesterday afternoon in Scottsdale to address and formally deny the charges. His words were delivered after one of his accusers, Sharon Bialek, alleged that Cain groped her following a 1997 dinner. Cain’s campaign has since called the allegations “false,” saying he did not recognize Bialek when he saw her at a press conference Monday and that he did not remember her name.
“I tried to remember if I recognized her, and I didn’t. I tried to remember if I remembered that name, and I didn’t,” Cain said, adding “I have never acted inappropriately with anyone. Period.”
According to Bialek, Cain unexpectedly put his hand on her leg beneath her skirt, “toward my genitals,” and pushed her head toward his crotch after a dinner at which she sought his help finding a job. She said she had just been laid off from the restaurant association’s educational foundation and was hoping Cain could help her find new work. Bialek said Cain told her, “You want a job, right?” — but he then stopped when she protested. “I respected him. I looked up to him. And it just was shocking to me that he would use that power in such a way,” Bialek said.
As for Bialek’s claims, Cain said, “They simply didn’t happen. They simply did not happen.” He said he would not allow “false allegations” to reflect negatively on his character. Cain also said that his withdrawal from the presidential race “ain’t gonna happen” and vowed “we will get through this. We will get through this.”

Adding to the circus: 2 women who've already held independent press conferences are now toying with the idea of doing a joint press conference.
