And "Why?" you might ask. Well let's ask Herman Cain: Cain said that, as a Southerner, "I know the South and you have to win the South. Mitt Romney didn't win the South when John McCain won the South and Mike Huckabee won the South. And I think that the reason he will have a difficult time winning the South is when he ran the first time he did not do a good job of communicating his religion."Read: <span&gt <a href="http://;http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=93422</span>” target=”_blank”>;http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=93422</span> Cain almost gets it right. Romney's *religion* IS a huge problem for evangelical voters. But Romney attempting to "explain" the Mormon faith won't mean jack. Evangelicals believe Mormonism is a cult. All the "explaining" in the world won't change that fact. And I highly doubt that Romney will get their votes, which is significant.

It set off such a firestorm (naturally) that by May the man was on Faux News backpeddling (kinda sorta), claiming his words had been "misconstrued"..!?! However, more recently he's made lots more bigoted, inflamatory and reckless comments. For example: He recently expressed…"in America, communties have the *Right* to ban Mosques." And he's also stated that if he's elected President he would "attack Iran to protect Israel" if Iran tries to "mess with" Israel. Has he "put the final nail in the coffin of his candidacy" with any of these comments? All indications are: Nope. Not among radical right-wingers anyway. As you pointed out DJ: Cain continues to poll in the double-digits among that crowd. I believe he's 3rd behind Bachmann and Romney. Will he win the GOP nomination for President? No. But for now, his candidacy appears to still be ALIVE and kicking. For how much longer? We shall see.
