“Hickey” POLITICS IN WEST VIRGINIA

Spread The Love

Gov. Joe Manchin of West Virginia is steaming mad after a not-so-flattering campaign ad cast West Virginians in an unpleasant light.

Gov. Manchin, a Democrat, is running for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by the late Sen. Robert Byrd.  Manchin is incredibly popular within his state and his elevation to Byrd’s former seat was seen as all but a shoe in. Except his Republican challenger, John Raese, has been playing some dirty tricks of late, with a new campaign ad that has Manchin, the Democratic Party, and some West Virginians crying foul.

The ad in question shows 3 “blue-collar” like West Virginian men sitting around discussing how they believe if Manchin goes to Washington, he’ll become an Obama clone who will sign off on everything he’s told.  According to the men, Manchin would be best served by voters keeping him right at home in West Virginia.  Now that’s just playing politics and is not the worst part.  Here’s the clincher: it was discovered that the men were not from West Virginia at all, but instead were actors cast out of Philadelphia.  According to the casting call, only actors who were “hickey,” with a coal miner/trucker look and costume (flannel shirt, jacket and t-shirt underneath, etc.) were allowed to apply.  Interesting!
