HIV Researchers Find Possible Cure
Have scientists FINALLY found the elusive cure for HIV? According to a British man who believes he is now disease-free following a radical new treatment, the answer is a resounding yes!

A 44-year-old social worker in London appears to be completely free of the HIV virus after undergoing an experimental “kick and kill” treatment. As part of the trial, the man initially took a vaccine to help his immune system detect infected cells, then took Vorinostat to activate dormant T-cells that are normally undetected. Scientists then let the healthy parts of the immune system kill off all the HIV, effectively eliminating any chance of the virus returning.
“It would be great if a cure has happened,” the trial patient said. “My last blood test was a couple of weeks ago and there is no detectable virus.”
The treatment was designed by a team of scientists and doctors from 5 of the UK’s best universities and is the most promising yet. However, despite jubilation that this could be “it,” scientists are understandably quick to point out that there is a long way to go before popping champagne corks and calling this “the cure.” The man is only the first of 50 patients to complete the trial, and he’ll have to wait several months before receiving confirmation that HIV is no longer in his system.

Scientists also warn of the remote possibility that it was the patient’s doses of conventional medicines and not their treatment that has contributed to his seemingly clean bill of health. Nevertheless, even if everything is fine after this first experiment, the tests will continue for another 5 years.
Still, their findings are undoubtedly promising. If the treatment clears all the necessary hurdles, and if HIV doesn’t evolve to resist the medicine, the virus could be virtually eliminated within the next 10 years.
“I took part in the trial to help others as well as myself,” the patient said. “It would be a massive achievement if, after all these years, something is found to cure people of this disease. The fact that I was a part of that would be incredible.”
