HOUSE PASSES HEALTH CARE BILL
On Saturday, the House of Representatives passed a sweeping health care bill which brings us all one step closer to health care for everyone in the U.S.
The House passed its health care bill late Saturday night by a 220-215 vote, with 39 Democrats in opposition and one lone Republican, Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao (R-LA) supporting it. Cao said he was standing up for his constituents with his “yes” vote, citing “exploding” health care costs in his district and the need for more accessible care. He noted that he had received a commitment from President Obama earlier that day to address health care and other issues in Louisiana: “I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people. My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents.”
Democrats erupted in spontaneous and raucous applause after seeing their efforts succeed when it once seemed an impossibility. But the celebration may not be sustained. The bill must now proceed to the Senate where it is nearly certain to fail in its current form. The Senate and House will have to meet and come to some sort of compromise bill before it can ever reach President Obama’s desk for his signature. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not deterred. She believes lawmakers will be able to reach compromise and present the President a unified bill sometime early next year, but only time will tell.
So what do you think — Is Health Care destined for reform?
So what the house passed their bill. It's gonna die in the senate so its worthless anyway.
