Hunter Biden Pardon Surprised (Some) Americans

- President Biden went against his word and pardoned his son

President Biden has angered Democrats by going against his word and pardoning his son, Hunter Biden. So, exactly why is everyone so surprised?

Top News Today :
When Hunter Biden was convicted on a federal gun charge and pled guilty to tax evasion, President Biden vowed not to use the exceptional powers of the presidency for the benefit of his family. He also said he would not interfere by pardoning his son or commuting his sentence. However, that pledge went out the window on Sunday night when the president issued a full pardon for his son during the sleepy Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Interestingly, the pardon came only weeks before Hunter was set to be sentenced and less than 2 months before President Biden will leave The White House.

“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted. Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form. Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently,” the president said in a statement.

“The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election. Then, a carefully negotiated plea deal, agreed to by the Department of Justice, unraveled in the court room – with a number of my political opponents in Congress taking credit for bringing political pressure on the process. Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter’s cases,” Mr. Biden continued.

“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong. There has been an effort to break Hunter – who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough,” the president concluded.

President Biden’s broad pardon covers not only the gun and tax offenses against the younger Biden, but also any other “offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024.”

Or, in other words, it’s a “Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free” card for anything he’s already done — or anything Republicans dig up on him in the future.

Interestingly, the pardon was the worst-kept secret in Washington.

“Anyone who was even close to the top knew that he was probably going to do this. Why did we pretend otherwise?” a former senior West Wing aide said.

“It was extremely, painfully obvious that this was where things would end up,” another former senior White House official said after calling the pardon all but “certain.”

With his presidency rapidly coming to a close and with his lone surviving son facing federal charges and possible jail time, anyone with a working brain should have known the senior Biden was never going to subject his flesh and blood to a punishment he could personally prevent — no matter what.

Right or wrong, the Hunter Biden pardon was always inevitable.

Amen to that. I am still processing it all.

Mr.BD

There is no way Biden was going to not pardon his own son. Whoever cannot believe it must be crazy.
