HURRICANE + BP OIL SPILL
It has been one of the greatest fears of the year. And now, it appears those fears are about to become a reality.
There is a Hurricane brewing in the Gulf of Mexico, right in the midst of that great big BP oil spill. Any Hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico is cause for alarm. But with the Gulf overcome by the greatest oil spill disaster in U.S. history, thoughts of an even bigger disaster are understandably prevalent.
Last night, Tropical Storm Alex was upgraded to Hurricane Alex. It is expected to reach full strength by Thursday and the devastation it could bring is unfathomable. First, all clean up efforts and rescue of wildlife will cease immediately. Then Alex is expected to create waves of 12 feet or more. But the greatest fear is that once the Hurricane stirs up the seas with its high winds and vast waves, it will almost assuredly lift oil damaged waters onto land, which could leave streets flooded and houses covered in thick oil sludge. So far, officials are only hoping for the best.
