“I AM NOT A WITCH”

Bill Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real Time” said it best:  “If you have to start your campaign by saying ‘I am not a witch,’ that’s usually not a good sign.”

Christine O’Donnell, the witchcraft-dabbling Tea Party/Republican Senate candidate from Delaware, is in a heap of trouble. After admitting several years ago on national television that she dabbled in witchcraft, O’Donnell likely never assumed those words would one day come back to haunt her (pun intended). But indeed they have, as her youthful indiscretions as a witch are now affecting the viability of her current day political campaign.

Granted, O’Donnell’s rant of witchery, satanic ritual and the like was a stupid admission for anyone, let alone someone with future political aspirations.  But what’s done is done.  However, in an attempt to correct the perceptions of her past, her handlers came up with a light bulb of a bright idea:  They dressed her up in a black gown, placed her against a black background, and had her film a campaign ad that said “I am not a witch.  I am you.”  Sheesh!

Black dress?  Black background??  Really??? All that was missing was the coned hat, a black cat, and a broom — and she would have been the perfect symbol for Halloween.  Nevertheless, take a look at the ad and decide for yourself if it made you feel better about Christine O’Donnell for U.S. Senate.
