Impeachment Trial Dismissal Would Be Bad, Says GOP

Spread The Love

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and most of his Republican colleagues have come to their senses regarding at least one part of the impending Donald Trump impeachment trial: any attempt to dismiss it and not allow it to play out would be a disaster!

Politics
For years, Donald Trump has had the luxury of running roughshod with impunity over the constitution — knowing that his Republican cronies in Congress were always there to coddle and protect him.  However, even the GOP now recognizes what it would mean to the fabric of America if they were to dismiss an impeachment trial and hand ‘The Donald’ a free pass without ever hearing a syllable of evidence.

According to CNN, several of Trump’s most ardent protectors have argued against dismissing the impeachment trial that is almost certain to pass the Democratic House of Representatives and be sent to the US Senate.  However, a separate contingency of conservatives still wants to put politics over democracy and make a mockery of the case the House is currently constructing.

Impeachment Trial

So far, the faction willing to allow an impeachment trial appears to be winning.

“I haven’t heard anyone espousing a quick dismissal. I certainly think we need to hear it out from the House. This is a serious thing. When you are considering removing somebody from office or impeaching them in that way. I think you’ve got to hear it.” – Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia GOP

They believe that a comprehensive and public examination of the charges is actually in Trump’s best interest, since it could help clear his name and keep him in office.  Additionally, they believe that allowing the process to play out is in the best interest of the American people (who deserve to know the truth), and best for the Senate as an institution.

“Unlike the process up to this point, I think it is important the Senate process be viewed as fair and serious and give serious consideration to whatever the House is going to bring us,” said Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, a member of the Republican leadership.  He added that he is “very doubtful that there will be some immediate attempt to try to dismiss the charges.”

Sen. David Perdue of Georgia, who is a close ally to Trump, added that because there’s been so much “innuendo and stuff done behind closed-doors” during the House impeachment inquiry, he “personally would welcome an open and fulsome debate.”

“What I want to hear is both sides of the argument. The trial is in the Senate not in the House,” Perdue said last week. “But I don’t see this taking weeks and weeks and weeks. This is a very isolated accusation so I would hope we could get a look at it and get it done and give this President due process.”

Are Republicans seriously willing to give an impending impeachment trial of Donald Trump fair consideration for the future of the democracy?  Or, are their words hot air and a bunch of political posturing so as to create a faux reverence for the process?

Some Repubs are willing to APPEAR to give an impending impeachment trial of Donald Trump fair consideration for the future of the democracy. The key word being *APPEAR*- as in ‘give the impression.’

When the truth is, they couldn’t less about the future of our democracy. And when the trial is all said and done they will quickly ACQUIT their president.

But the Dems are doing the right thing.

Alright I am finally able to take a lunch and get to this. I cosign Truth the Repubs are fakes. They are going to go whatever way the wind blows. If it looks like a lot of the country wants Trump gone they are going to turn on him. If not then they are going to keep doing what they always do and protect him. I do not trust them or believe anything they say. Every decision they make is based on politics. They proved a long time ago they do not care about what is right for the country just as long as they put their party first.
