January 6, 2021. History will forever record this dark day as the Trump/MAGA Insurrection.
Top News Today
The violent takeover of the US Capitol last week by Donald Trump insurgents — who somehow believed they could ignore the will of the people and the Supreme Court to forcibly overturn a bonafide election — has garnered the attention of all the world.
More information from behind the scenes of January 6th has since come to light. Let’s take a look at the timeline of events:
.
WEDNESDAY MORNING, 1/6/21: Donald Trump held a rally outside The White House and revved up thousands of his MAGA sycophants to march to the Capitol and take back “our” country.
“You’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong,” he said while inciting his followers to “fight, fight, fight.”
Following the rally, Trump vowed to march to The Capitol with his MAGA fanatics. Instead, he slipped inside The White House and watched his devilish melee’ unfold on cable news.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 12 Noon: Sens. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley launched into a theatrical stunt during a joint session of Congress, in an attempt to prevent (or, at least delay) the certification of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 1:00 pm: Thousands of Trump’s MAGA fanatics (including white supremacist groups, white nationalists, avowed racists, and the ignorant/uninformed) arrived at the US Capitol. While chanting “Hang Mike Pence” and “Kill Nancy Pelosi,” they breached security and began breaking into the House of Representatives and the Senate.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 1:30 pm: As members of the US Capitol Police fought valiantly to prevent the rioters from entering the seat of democracy, several police officers took selfies with the terrorists while others were seen opening the gates and freely inviting them in.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 1:33 pm: VP Mike Pence, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer were quickly ushered to an underground bunker (Pence was eventually evacuated from the building by the US Secret Service).
Other members of Congress donned gas masks (which are permanently under every seat following 9/11) and hid behind desks and chairs in the House chamber in expectation of gunfire and/or bomb attacks. Some were able to escape to undisclosed locations inside the Capitol.
While hunkered down, Pelosi, McConnell, and Pence called contacts inside the Pentagon and the governors of Maryland and Virginia, begging for police reinforcements. Mike Pence (NOT Trump) contacted the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and orchestrated a plan to save the Capitol and the legislators within.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 1:40 pm: Donald Trump watched the insurrection on television with Rudy Giuliani, cheering on his MAGA mob to keep going. Clearly not understanding the magnitude of what was happening, he also phoned several Republican lawmakers, telling them to use the melee’ to his advantage so that the certification of Joe Biden would be delayed.
Multiple Republicans stuck inside The Capitol begged Trump for his help. Additionally, several White House staff members pleaded with Trump to deliver a message to his followers to stop the violence. Reluctantly, Trump delivered a lukewarm recorded message to his MAGA rioters — adding that the election was rigged and ending with Trump telling his followers that he loved them. Since they were all inside The Capitol building burglarizing offices and smearing human feces throughout the halls, none of the MAGAites likely heard Trump’s message.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 5:30 pm: Police reinforcements from Maryland and Virginia arrived throughout the afternoon. Together with the Capitol Police and the DC Police Department, they were able to secure the building and end the siege.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, 7:00 pm: As Democrats and Republicans alike slammed the MAGA riot and blamed Donald Trump for inciting his flock to violence, White House officials once again begged Trump to make a 2nd and much stronger statement. Advisors warned Trump that he could be held liable for the insurrection unless he said words to help absolve him of wrongdoing.
“I would like to begin by addressing the heinous attack on the United States Capitol,” Trump said. “Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness, and mayhem.” Yeah, right. His calming tone on Wednesday night was a far cry from his antagonistic tone of “We will NEVER concede” on Wednesday morning.
“I immediately deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement,” Trump continued, which was a total lie. Resembling a hostage being forced to read a statement with a gun to his head, it was clear Trump’s words were not his own.
.
WEDNESDAY, 1/6/21, NEAR MIDNIGHT: Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate reconvened to finish the business of the day. Interestingly, Sens. Mitch McConnell and Lindsay Graham, who have each coddled Donald Trump and done his bidding for the past 4 years, stood in defiance of him.
Where were McConnell and Graham years ago? Their words were too little, too late.
As Congress resumed calling the roll to certify the election results, the planned stunts from Sens. Hawley and Cruz had lost all credence. Several Republicans still objected to the results but moved swiftly to declare Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the legitimate winners. By 3 am the day was done and the lawmakers were finally allowed to go home.
.
THE AFTERMATH
~ After proudly posting their violent acts of insurrection on social media, several MAGA mob members have since been identified and arrested by the FBI. Federal agencies are continuing to seek the help of the public in identifying all the domestic terrorists in order to bring them to justice.
~ Facebook suspended Donald Trump’s account indefinitely and Twitter suspended it permanently. Any attempts by Trump to post using someone else’s account (which he has already tried) were immediately taken down. Finally, he has been silenced.
~ VP Mike Pence took the temperature of White House cabinet members to determine if there is support to invoke the 25th Amendment and immediately remove Trump from office.
~ Angry that Pence didn’t abuse his powers and outright reject the reading of the vote results and disenfranchise millions of American voters, the childish Donald Trump is no longer talking to his vice-president and has not spoken to him since January 6th.
~ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a warning to Donald Trump: resign or face yet another impeachment. Pelosi has the necessary votes to impeach Trump in the House and can simply delay the Senate trial until after Democrats take control following the inauguration. If Trump is impeached again, he will be ineligible to ever hold federal office again. Additionally, he would lose his pension and lifetime secret service detail.
~ Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died after the MAGA mob beat him with a fire extinguisher. Officer Howard Liebengood took his own life on Saturday after defending the Capitol building.
~ Claiming that Donald Trump’s involvement in the insurrection of January 6th was too much for them, Education Secretary Betsy Davos and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao each submitted their resignations. Their moves were less about being disgusted by Trump and more about saving their own reputations as well as avoiding any talk of the 25th amendment.
~ After being caught on camera as a participant in the MAGA riot, Republican Derrick Evans, a newly elected member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, was arrested for illegal entry into The Capitol. He has since resigned from his state post.
.
~ For his involvement in stoking the flames, Sen. Josh Hawley lost his book deal with Simon & Schuster. Additionally, his one-time mentor, former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, announced publicly that backing Hawley was the “worst mistake I ever made.”
~ Donald Trump announced he will NOT attend the Biden inauguration, but will leave for Mar-a-lago on January 19th.
~ In an attempt to save face, several ReTRUMPlicans are now claiming that the violence at The Capitol was not caused by MAGA followers, but by the radical group Antifa. Those claims were shot down when MAGA rioter Jacob Anthony Chansley told police he only traveled to Washington and stormed The Capitol because Donald Trump called him and others to arms and said it was the “patriotic” thing to do.
~ Fearing the violence was partially an inside job, congressional leaders called for and received the resignations of the Capitol police chief, as well as the sergeant-at-arms of the House and the Senate.
~ Police found pipe bombs at the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee headquarters. Additionally, an Alabama man attending the riot had several Molotov cocktails inside his car.
~ National Security officials are warning that the same MAGA mob is planning yet another insurrection for January 20th, the date of the Biden-Harris inauguration. Apparently, the terrorists feel invincible following their successful breach of the US Capitol and emboldened by Donald Trump’s continued wink-and-a-nod to save him from being seen as a loser. Officials believe a new “civil war” with various racist misfit groups from across the country is on the horizon and could materialize as early as January 17th.
.
The January 6th insurrection will forever remain ingrained in our memories. However, the lawmakers who were caught inside while hearing a violent mob shout “Where’s Pence?” and more may understandably experience permanent PTSD. The terrorists could have shot up the entire House of Representatives or launched a bomb killing everyone within the government. The fact they got so far without resistance is concerning.
Still, if this had been thousands of black and brown faces storming the US seat of democracy, dead bodies would have been strewn all across the steps of The Capitol. Also, if President Barack Obama had incited his supporters to commit this same violence, he would have been impeached, in jail, or worse.
The entire world is watching. The genie is out of the bottle. Regrettably, there’s no turning back now.
It took a little longer to read todays post. But that is the point because all this happened in one day. I am glad the Dems brought impeachment against Trump again today. He cannot get away with it this time.
