iPHONE 4: “You’re Holding It Wrong”
Last Thursday, the new Apple iPhone 4 finally arrived to much anticipation and great fanfare. But the excitement didn’t last long once many got to physically “hold it in their hands.”
One of the greatly touted features of the new iPhone is the silver metallic antenna band around the sides of the device. Apple CEO Steve Jobs boasted that designing the antenna on the outside of the phone versus the inside and behind components, would greatly improve cell phone reception. Well, at least it sounded great on paper. But putting it to use was a completely different story.
As you will see in the video below, once the moist hands of any human comes in contact with the metal antenna, the phone reception bars gradually drop to nothing, rendering phone functionality useless. And as word of this incredible malfunction reached Steve Jobs at Apple, he immediately responded to mounting complaints with this surprise one sentence remedy: “You’re holding it the wrong way!” HUH???
You see, once the hand covers the lower left side of the new iPhone, it instantly blocks antenna reception to the phone and causes a plethora of dropped calls (says AT&T: “Hey, this time it’s not OUR fault!”). Historically, Apple is so secretive with it’s new creations, that the new iPhone was tested inside the casing of the older iPhone 3Gs in order to camouflage it. So Apple never knew (until last week) that the new design would actually work AGAINST them once the iPhone made it into the “hands” of consumers. But, as many Apple fanatics soon discovered, simply putting the phone inside a protective phone case prevents the hands from coming in direct contact with the antenna, and has been found to solve the problem.
Nevertheless, Apple is expected to release iOS 4.0.1 later today, which is an update to last week’s new operating system, to address the antenna to hand problem regardless if you’re using a case or not. Hey, thank you Apple for the quick-fix!
