iPHONE SURVIVES FALL FROM PLANE
When Jarrod McKinney’s 2-year-old daughter accidentally knocked his iPhone off the bathroom shelf, he wasn’t surprised when the screen shattered into bits. But that’s nothing compared to what happened the next time around.
McKinney is an avid skydiver and, in a rush to begin a jump he forgot to zip up his skydiving pants. So it should come as no surprise that the iPhone slipped out of his pocket, convincing him that all hope was lost.
McKinney used a GPS app to find the phone, but was “just absolutely shocked” when he discovered that the phone survived the 13,500 foot fall. The glass surface was shattered, but the device was sitting atop a 2-story building not far from where he had landed. Joe Johnson, McKinney’s skydiving instructor, thought calling the busted phone would be funny, but never in a million years did he expect it to work. Except it did.
“They were all like, ‘It works! It works!'” McKinney said. Although the touchscreen had been completely shattered, rendering nearly all of the smartphone’s functions inaccessible, the fact the phone was still able to receive calls was quite amazing.
