R.I.P. Iran Nuclear Deal. Date and Time of death: May 08, 2018, 2:36pm EDT.
Top News Today
On Tuesday, Donald Trump pulled the plug on the multi-nation Iran Nuclear Deal of 2015, effectively throwing the earth into a state of nuclear oblivion where almost anything could happen. The original deal was spearheaded by former President Barack Obama and created in partnership with Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the European Union as a means to prevent Iran from building and threatening the world with a nuclear weapon. Now, thanks to Trump, that deal is dead.
Here are the Top 5 reasons why “The Donald’s” decision to revoke the deal under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons will soon have us all teetering on the brink of disaster.
.
1.) BACK TO SQUARE ONE
Without an active deal in place, Iran can now go back to building a nuclear weapon immediately (if they haven’t already begun to do so). Prior to Tuesday, Iran had been under 24-hour surveillance at key sites, had hundreds of inspectors at its facilities, and was prohibited from expanding its uranium enrichment work. Now, all bets are off. In fact, experts predict Trump’s act could put Iran only weeks away from producing an active nuclear weapon.
.
2.) FOLLOW THE LEADER
If Iran is going to build a nuclear weapon, then several nations have already made clear they plan to follow the leader and do the same out of protection. In fact, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince has alerted America of its plans to proceed with a nuclear program. Turkey also put the US on notice that it intends to match any capability Iran creates.
According to Donald Trump, America was supposed to be safer by pulling out of the deal. Now, it’s quickly becoming clear that the US (and, to a greater degree, Israel) will not benefit at all from his pull of the trigger.
.
3.) AMERICA’S WORD ISN’T WORTH A $3 DOLLAR BILL
America has a long-standing tradition of honoring its word — a bond that has transcended centuries, political parties and presidencies. Now, not so much.
With the stroke of a pen, Donald Trump instantly made America a flake. Now, world nations will almost assuredly feel reluctant to enter into any sort of agreement with the United States out of fear that some future American leader could come along and disband the deal. At least that is the precedent Trump has set.
.
4.) CREDIBILITY AND LEADERSHIP DOWN THE DRAIN
When an American president negotiates a deal and gives his word, that is supposed to carry weight. In fact, America’s leadership as THE global superpower comes with a certain expectation of trust and responsibility. Now, Trump has jeopardized America’s ability to lead across a wide range of complex global issues.
The United States led its allies into the Iran Nuclear Deal, then ran away from it and left everyone in a state of confusion and panic. That is certainly not the act of a true leader.

.
5.) THE NEW NORMAL
The United Kingdom and Germany each begged Donald Trump not to revoke the Iran Nuclear Deal. In fact, British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson appeared on Fox News (Trump’s network of choice) to beg for his reconsideration. Still, he went rogue and did it anyway. This follows his previous acts of withdrawing from the Paris climate change agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which has since left America isolated in trade and climate science.
As the saying goes: “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Certainly, allies and other world nations will be reluctant — if not completely resistant — to follow America’s lead down another dead-end in the near future.

After years of building a rock-solid reputation of trustworthiness and reliability, the world is now asking itself a very important question: Can America be trusted under Donald Trump? Based on his latest actions, the answer is quickly morphing into a resounding NO!
So once again I am reminded of these two quotes: “As democracy is perfected, the office [of president] represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move towards a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” -H.L. Mencken, writer at Baltimore Sun, July 26, 1920 “The government you elect is the government you deserve.” Thomas Jefferson Suffice it to say I did not vote for Trump. Indeed, the majority of Americans who bothered to vote in 2016 did NOT vote for Trump (he lost the popular vote by approx 3 million votes). But it is true – he got just enough votes in a few states to win the presidency via the Electoral College. And as a result, WE now have… Read more »
