IRAN’S IRONY
In the week’s greatest moment of irony, one doesn’t have to look farther than the president of Iran.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a known dictator who oppresses the will and open speech of his people. Which is why it’s ironic that Ahmadinejad has come out in support of freedom for the people of Egypt, when he refuses to offer the same to those within his own country.
Speaking at the 32nd anniversary of the Iranian revolution of 1979, Ahmadinejad surprised the diplomatic world by supporting the uprising in Egypt and the emergence of what he called a “new Middle East.” He addressed the Egyptian people directly, saying: “It is your right to be free. It is your right to exercise your will and sovereignty.” WOW!
In response to Ahmadinejad’s odd position, former White House spokesman Robert Gibbs noted that the Iranian government had clamped down on news media coverage of the events in Egypt, and did not permit its own citizens to freely express their opinions. “What you’ve seen in the region is the government of Iran, quite frankly, scared of the will of its people,” Mr. Gibbs said.
This dude must have balls made of brass!!
