IS AT&T THE WORST?
AT&T is the worst cellular network in America.
This according to 58,000 Consumer Reports readers, who were surveyed about their carriers, including Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and regional carrier U.S. Cellular. Consumer Reports named U.S. Cellular as the highest ranking of any of the providers, with a reader score of 82. Verizon followed with 74, Sprint with 73, T-Mobile with 69, and AT&T came in dead last with 60.
AT&T scored the lowest possible ranking in eight of the nine surveyed categories, including overall value, voice service, data service, customer support via phone, customer support via Website, customer support via e-mail, staff knowledge, and issues resolved. AT&T’s text service was the lone exception, which registered with the second lowest possible score.
The report went on to say that half of AT&T customers are iPhone users, who are the majority of customers disenchanted with their service. But this comes as no surprise following the exclusive deal Apple struck with AT&T back in 2007. No cellular network was built to run the type of heavy data traffic the innovative new iPhone brought to the mobile scene. Every network was built mainly for voice calls, not constant web use, emails and more. So for now, AT&T is like a one lane highway with 5000 cars on it. Except the moment the exclusive agreement ends and the iPhone becomes available on other networks, the AT&T traffic jam will be alleviated and will almost certainly improve customer satisfaction.
