Is ‘Bridge-Gate’ the Beginning of the End For Chris Christie?
Top News Today
East Coast residents recognize the George Washington Bridge, which connects New Jersey to the island of Manhattan, as vital to their daily transportation. In fact, it is the most trafficked motor vehicle bridge in the world. Without the GWB, thousands of New Jersey residents who work in New York are crippled. So when the Fort Lee, NJ entry way to the bridge was purposely closed last year for political retribution, it caused a domino effect of devastation.
Originally, Gov. Christie denied any knowledge or involvement in the bridge being closed for political payback, calling such a suggestion preposterous. However, damning emails uncovered since then have provided proof positive that GOP operatives were indeed the architects of the bridge disaster.
The emails proved that the order to close several lanes and cause chaos on the GWB came from Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie’s deputy chief of staff, who wrote “Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.” The email was sent to David Wildstein, director of interstate capital projects, who responded “Got it,” before doing the dirty work and implementing the lane closings. Wildstein resigned his post in December and Kelly was fired last Thursday.

Originally, Gov. Christie downplayed any idea that lanes on the GWB were closed on purpose. Once positive proof was presented, Christie never apologized to anyone for anything. Instead, he feigned disapproval, forced several appointees into being the fall-guy by firing them, then tried to change the subject. So far, the public isn’t buying it.
“What I’ve seen today for the first time is unacceptable. I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge. One thing is clear: this type of behavior is unacceptable and I will not tolerate it because the people of New Jersey deserve better. This behavior is not representative of me or my Administration in any way, and people will be held responsible for their actions.”
– Gov. Chris Christie
As of today, the million dollar question is: What did Christie know and when did he know it? The answer to this question could spell the fate of the governor’s political future, as “Bridge-Gate” could be the beginning of the end for Chris Christie.
