iTUNES IS CHANGING
Apple’s iTunes started as a small computer application designed to manage MP3’s. But the app has outgrown itself, evolving into a store that sells music, movies, television shows and apps for the iPhone. In short, iTunes is now a mess.
Apple is aware that iTunes is much too big for diapers and is in dire need of “big boy pants,” so it has a solution to integrate iTunes with its new iCloud storage service, allowing for greater access to stored content such as music, videos, and apps on mobile devices. Apple also intends to launch new features for music sharing with a brand new iTunes store, which is expected to be unveiled later this year.
Social sharing appears to be a major goal of the iTunes Store overhaul. In addition to already tying Facebook into the iOS 6 mobile operating system, Apple is reportedly in negotiations with major record labels to establish a system in which users could share songs with friends. They are also considering a system where users would not necessarily need to own all of their music, but simply stream it through iCloud, which is sort of happening already.
Needless to say, big changes are in store for Apple and iTunes. Stay tuned…
