JAMES vs. JORDAN?
There’s some interesting chitter-chatter going around the sports world, comparing LeBron James to Michael Jordan. So, as a huge connoisseur of the sport, I will use an old reference from the TV show “Sanford and Son” and respond with the words of Fred Sanford: “ARE YOU CRAZY???”
For all the sports writers, journalists, bloggers and enthusiasts who are even putting the name “James” in the same same sentence with the name “Jordan” — please put down whatever pipe you’re smoking, come back to reality and recognize the facts:
Michael Jordan remained with the same team that drafted him. LeBron James didn’t. Michael Jordan took a losing draft team and turned it into a multiple champion. LeBron James didn’t. Michael Jordan (along with Wilt Chamberlain) scored 3000 points in ONE season. LeBron James didn’t. Michael Jordan has 6 championship rings. LeBron James has 1. Shall I go on??
Since Jordan retired from the game, everyone has been eager to find the “next Jordan.” First, Scottie Pippin was supposed to fill the shoes of Jordan. Then Kobe Bryant was the heir apparent. Then a string of other names followed — most not even worthy to be in the same company as the greatest to ever play the game.
What many don’t realize is, just like there was only one Jackie Robinson and one Muhammad Ali, there is only one Michael Jordan. There will never be another. Sure, someone may come along and score more points or win more championships, but there just is no comparison.
So stop with all the “Is LeBron like Mike?” nonsense. James has only won ONE championship and he needed a “Big 3” to do it — unlike Mike, who put the Bulls on HIS OWN back and took them continuously to the promised land.
Wake me when LeBron has 6 rings on his hands!
"There's some interesting chitter-chatter going around the sports world,"…Uh-huh. And some sports-media hack got this non-sense going for the shameless purpose of starting drama…smh. It seems, even when Lebron is moving along minding/and handling his own business his name somehow gets dragged into something he has no control over. But he's a big boy. If he's smart he won't take the bait. He'll simply keep his mouth shut and keep it moving, with the awareness and understanding that "this too shall pass." Now having said all that. DJ is right. ANY comparison to Jordan is ridicules. Setting aside the fact that Jordan is retired and his record is there for all the world to see, while Lebron still has some years of playing to go_the truth is, there will NEVER be another Jordan.Just as there will NEVER be another Wilt OR Ali OR Jackie Robinson OR Hank Aaron OR Kobe Bryant OR…the list goes on. My point being that sports-history books are filled with the names of great… Read more »
