Singer and actor Jim Nabors has died.

Nabors was the golden-voiced baritone with a silky smooth operatic sound that could melt any heart. However, he will best be remembered as the bumbling idiot Gomer Pyle on the long-running “Andy Griffith Show” and later as the star of the spinoff “Gomer Pyle, USMC.” He died peacefully at his Hawaii home following years of declining health, his husband, Stan Cadwallader said.
Nabors underwent a liver transplant in 1994 after contracting hepatitis B. On Wednesday, he underwent a series of tests and the decision was made to bring him home from the hospital.
“Everybody knows he was a wonderful man. And that’s all we can say about him. He’s going to be dearly missed,” Cadwallader said.
Jim Nabors was 87.
