Justice For J6 Rally Could Be Another January 6th
If you thought the Donald Trump-inspired January 6th rally and attack on Capitol Hill was something, just wait until right-wing white supremacists and other nut-jobs return to Washington this Saturday for the Justice For J6 rally.
Current Events
Billed as an event to support the insurrectionists who were charged and arrested for participating in the Capitol riots, the September 18th Justice For J6 rally (an acronym for January 6th) is set to rival the Capitol Hill attack. It will also serve as an opportunity to promote the idea of Trump For President in 2024 — with Donald Trump himself rumored to be one of the guest speakers of the day.
Capitol Police and leaders in Congress are taking the Justice For J6 rally and its accompanying threats very seriously. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer held a security briefing on Monday with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to prevent danger and prepare for protecting members of Congress. With an unknown number of armed protestors expected to attend, authorities in Washington will once again erect fencing around the Capitol to prevent unauthorized access and a repeat of January 6th.
“We intend to have the integrity of the Capitol be intact,” Speaker Pelosi said.
After being caught off guard by the Trump-led attack on Congress last January, officials are preparing for the worst — even if it never rises to that level.
“I think they should take it very seriously,” former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe warned. “In fact, they should take it more seriously than they took the same sort of intelligence that they likely saw on January 5.”
His warning is warranted.
On Monday, a man carrying multiple knives, a bayonet, and a machete was arrested outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington. Police found white supremacy symbols and a swastika inside his vehicle. Over the weekend, a leader of the Proud Boys encouraged his members to attend the J6 rally. Additionally, the group “White Lives Matter” announced it will stage demonstrations on September 18th in support of the arrested January 6th insurrectionists.
Regardless of who or how many may attend the Justice for J6 rally, local and federal police say they are ready.
“After January 6, we made Department-wide changes to the way we gather and share intelligence internally and externally,” US Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said in a statement. “I am confident the work we are doing now will make sure our officers have what they need [on Sept. 18] to keep everyone safe.”
ABC News: First, some blamed the deadly Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol on left-wing antifa antagonists, a theory quickly debunked. Then came comparisons of the rioters to peaceful protesters or even tourists. Now, allies of former President Donald Trump are calling those charged in the Capitol riot “political prisoners,” a stunning effort to revise the narrative of that deadly day. The brazen rhetoric ahead of a rally planned for Saturday at the Capitol is the latest attempt to explain away the horrific assault and obscure what played out for all the world to see: rioters loyal to the then-president storming the building, battling police and trying to stop Congress from certifying the election of Democrat Joe Biden. “Some people are calling it Jan. 6 trutherism – they’re rewriting the narrative to make it seem like Jan. 6 was no big deal, and it was a damn big deal,… Read more »
